I have to have a wisdom tooth out in half an hour. I am shit scared. Sedation not an option. Tell me to toughen the fuck up and it isn't that bad? I feel sick with fear.

I hate dentists and I'm a big wuss and I survived a couple of years ago! It really wasn't as bad as I expected so you will be ok Thanks

DramaAlpaca · 16/07/2018 09:33

Have a hand hold from me. You'll be fine & it'll all be over before you know it Flowers

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/07/2018 09:40

Thanks. I really don't want to go.

Top or bottom?

MissionItsPossible · 16/07/2018 09:41

You know deep down that what may be scary now is going to be 100 percent better for you in the long run. I don’t know if this is recommended, wise, or even should be given as advice in case it messes up the procedure but could you have a shot? Obviously if you can avoid it you should.

Babdoc · 16/07/2018 09:41

If your dentist is doing it themself under local, then it must be an easy one, OP. Difficult impacted ones with twisted roots usually get referred to hospital to be done under GA by an oral surgeon. I used to anaesthetise the oral surgery list for 36 years, so I know whereof I speak!
I had my own wisdom teeth out under local - I did the first two patients under GA then climbed on the table and had mine done by the surgeon as a favour (saved me paying a dentist!). It was completely painless and took about two minutes.
You will be fine, I promise. The biggest problem is trying to eat afterwards with a numb mouth - it will all dribble down your chin!
Let us know how you get on. You will be proud of yourself when it’s all finished!

Readyfortheschoolhols · 16/07/2018 09:46

Needle phobic here!!
I was pregnant and had never had a tooth out when dentist took a wisdom one out!! Didn't feel a thing and ate a cheese sandwich later that day without pain!!
Tell them you are scared - they will be extra patient!

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/07/2018 09:52

Thank you. It isn't impacted, I cracked it. Its fully erupted.

It's over in minutes, honest. The worst bit is the injection! All you feel when they're doing it is pressure. You'll be fineFlowers I've had all of mine out and thinking about it is much worse than the actual thing.x

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/07/2018 09:59

It's a lot easier than having a filling. And dentists don't like working on squirming patients so they'll do whatever it takes to make things OK for you.

Cath2907 · 16/07/2018 10:01

Local anaesthetic is fine, Had 2 of mine done under local on 2 different occasions. The recovery is painful - vodka and orange in the evenings helped!

chrysalis7 · 16/07/2018 10:03

When I had mine out - 4 over 3 months ... one at a time... I was fine immediately and it was no worse than a regular extraction.

I think it's worse if you have them out in hospital.

You will be fine. Smile Flowers

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/07/2018 10:07

I've had root canals with no problem but for some reason this terrifies me. At the dentist now and got the nervous runs. Just what I needed.

OP posts:
Dumbledoresgirl · 16/07/2018 10:09

Honestly, in 10 minutes it will all over. I've had a failed root canal, cracked in 2 pieces, tooth out and I felt nothing.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/07/2018 11:00

I did it. Hurting a bit already as a root got stuck and wouldn't come out easily but it's over. The tooth itself wasn't that bad though.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 16/07/2018 11:01

I've had 2 out. You'll be fine. 😀

vampirethriller · 16/07/2018 11:19

Well done! Get yourself a treat now!

Hidingtonothing · 16/07/2018 11:30

Well done OP, that was really brave. I have an unfortunate combination of being terrified of dental work and having ridiculously long roots so extractions are a nightmare for me, I totally sympathise. Hope recovery is quick and as painless as possible, really well done for going through with it Star

MissionItsPossible · 16/07/2018 11:34

Well done. I would have been absolutely shitting it too and maybe would have even cancelled and postponed it so you did great.

DramaAlpaca · 16/07/2018 15:21

Well done OP, hope it's not too sore Star

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/07/2018 18:08

Thanks everyone. I'm really glad it's done. Hurts now though. I don't think all the extra digging around did me any favours.

OP posts:
chrysalis7 · 16/07/2018 18:19

Woo hoo!!! Well done you. Yeah it will throb a bit for a few days. Get some cocodomol, and naproxen if you can. Failing that, 'paracetamol and codiene' from the pharmacy, and a also strong anti-inflammatory from there too (like ibuprofen.)
