To enjoy wearing a nice vest?

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2007 20:57

DH threw a metaphorical hand grenade into our marriage this morning.

He said (and I will quote him directly) "Darling, not even my mother wears vests as much as you do".

How mean is that?

I will at this point hold my hands up and say 'yes, I do like to wear a vest'.
But in my defence I:
a) do not wear one in bed
b) do not wear one when having sex
c) do not wear one in very hot weather
d) do not wear the long ones from Damart that you tuck in your knickers. I do own one of these but would only put it on in extreme condtions, such as if I needed to go and make a snowman.

So is my vest habit so very wrong?
It is cold up here in the North you know.
It is after all just a small top, that I wear under a top. It is in essence just a sub-top. Hardly justifies DH using it as a weapon to compare me with with my MIL is it?

I am of course only wanting to hear replies that back me up. I will show these to DH and he will retract his nasty comment. How does he know how much his mother wears one anyway?
eh.

I am so disturbed at your husband's knowledge of his mother's undergarments I will have to go and watch George Clooney on the telly.

I suggest you do the same.

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2007 21:01

I am already in position.

I think we need to know more about the vests (fabric, label, style etc) to know whether or not you are indeed being unreasonable.

VerySensibleKbear · 28/05/2007 21:03

A girl needs to protect her valuable assets - vest are essential I would say. Tell him to bugger orf.

fishie · 28/05/2007 21:06

i am with you on the vesty slub. i always always wear one, unless it is boiling, usually in contrasting colour to rest of outfit. i favour m&s limited collection long camisoles.

dp has never complained, but he thinks that central heating is for softies.

veruccasalt · 28/05/2007 21:06

My Nan used to say 'don't cast any clouts til May be out'. I assume that 'clouts' in this case refers to undergarments.... and May certainly isn't out if it refers to the month.

Plus it's been bloody cold this weekend even in the so-called sunny South .

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2007 21:06

Well I have quite a selection...for use in various occasions.

I have the plain t-shirt type with spagetti straps. In white and black.

I have the plain t-shirt with liitle sleeves.

I have the pretty one with a bit of nice detailing on the top that poke out from undreneath the top-top.

I have some shinyish camisole ones.

I have the full length arms ones...for camping. Not that i really go camping.

I have the damart tuck in pant ones.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2007 21:08

Oh and I have those ones with a built in bra so you don't need a bra. But I still do wear a bra with them.

And I have a body. WWith pull in panels.

OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 28/05/2007 21:08

Well I don't see how he can possibly object to those.
Anyway surely wearing a vest is environmentally friendly (as opposed to turning the heating up) and will save you both money.

Cappuccino · 28/05/2007 21:10

lol at 'sub top'

I wear sub tops

I call them 't-shirts' or 'camisoles' - dh can't object to either of those

it's just a question of spin, you have been referring to them by the wrong name

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2007 21:11

Thank yoou Kathy. I had not considered the environmantal angle.

Although to be fair, I am currently with vest, and central heating. But it is very cold today. And damp.

OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 28/05/2007 21:13

Well just think how high you would have to have the heating if you were not wearing a vest

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2007 21:14

But cappucino, if I just renamed them am I not betraying the great british institution that is the vest?

And DH could well see through the charade.

OP posts:
Emprexia · 28/05/2007 22:09

There is nothing wrong with wearing any of those if its cold.

I still have a lycra maternity vest that i wear when its cold. Tell him to go away.

MaPickle · 28/05/2007 22:15

I love a nice vest me but I'm from Yorkshire originally and they graft them on to you at birth.

I can never wear white ones though due to childhood trauma ("but mum all the other girls have crop tops" "But a crop top won't keep your tummy warm will it?" "But you can see it through my school shirt" "No one's looking" "They bloody ARE" etc etc)

agnesnitt · 28/05/2007 23:01

Call it a cami and tell him if he objects you can send him out with an appropriate shopping list of ones you'd like that he wouldn't object to

A vest, a vest?? My dad didn't get to be 92yo by not wearing a vest! Keighley M&S sells simmets no longer available anywhere else in the UK, I swear. And they are the bastion of the string vest, the garment which, when my father donned one, indicated that Summer Is Here.

Anyway, vests are nothing compared to the Liberty bodices my mother made me wear as a child. All those little buttons down the front. I had to get up half an hour earlier in winter just to get them done up.

NoBiggy · 28/05/2007 23:29

Oh man, I need to go to sleep.

I read this as you enjoy wearing a rice vest (which would be unreasonable, btw).

Then thought you were putting it through an environmental mangle.

Slubberdegullion · 29/05/2007 13:10

lol agnes at sending him out to get me more appropriate ones. I asked for nice undrewear from him at Christmas. Gave him note with sizes, colours, styles and even shop for him to look in (went down the M&S option as thought that would be safe).

Well the poor man practically gave himself an aneurism with anxiety. Blushing and sweating before he even got to the bottom of the escalator. It was so worth it just for pure comedy value that I'm going to ask every year for new undies. Maybe crank it up a notch and send him into Anne Summers this year.

Vest on today btw. Tried the 'do you like this camisole I have on?' to DH. He said 'but thats just your usual vest, and whats a camisole'? I give up.

also lol at rice vest through an environmental mangle. conjures up all sorts of lentil-weavery images.

Get a La Perla catalogue (or look at the website) and ask your DH whether there is anything there he'd prefer...

Slubberdegullion · 29/05/2007 13:24

oooh not really a catalogue person but might give it a try. They need to be warm mind. No point in a vest if it doesn't keep you nipples down and your belly warm.

OP posts:
maycontainstress · 29/05/2007 13:54

I am all about the vest. Sometimes I wear two of them. I love the cami type and the thermal cami vests which enable you to wear a tshirt on a cooler day without hunching your spine or being covered in goosebumps.

My dp groans when he sees me putting one on .

I don't like the cold and vests are discreet, I loves them.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 29/05/2007 13:56

Maycontainstress, why don't you change your name to Allaboutthevest?
Your current name is good but I think that would be even better.

Slubberdegullion · 29/05/2007 18:52

I concur Kathy, Allaboutthevest is a tremendously cool name.

wish I had thought of it for myself
