To think the neighbours are being quite unreasonable - dogs

We always got on with our neighbours fairly well. But they have always had a lot of dogs, usually four or five, and they do tend to be loud and yappy but friendly so have ignored the noise.

About six months ago the neighbours got a rescue dog that was quite aggressive. Growled all the time and barked constantly. As it was winter I didn’t notice so much but as summer is now here and am outside more so is the dog. I open the door to put washing out and the dog goes mad, I open the door to get something from my car and the dog goes mad, it’s constant.

Anyway at about Easter they got yet another dog and this one is even worse as it’s not just a barker but very aggressive. I raised this with them and she said that he wouldn’t bite but I was scared to be honest and my son was as well.

Now all hell has broken loose because the dog escaped and while my son was putting rubbish in the bin outside the dog went behind him and was growling. DS stamped his foot next to the dog and shouted. Dog went in. The neighbours are claiming DS kicked the dog.

How best to manage? I hate conflict like this.

Tell them next time their dog escape into your garden and growls at your child you'll be the one to kick it. They should have their dog under control

Your neighbour is being absolutely ridiculous when she says that the dog will not bite anyone. Any dog will bite if they are provoked enough. Her comment shows she doesn't really know enough or understand enough about dogs to keep them. If you have legal advice with your house insurance, I would give them a ring and see what they suggest. I totally understand that the don't want to fall out with your neighbours, but if the dog's behaviour is concerning you that much they need to sort it out for everyone's safety. Leaving a dog to bark all day and intimidate the neighbours is no way to look after it. It sounds as if they cannot cope with it so are leaving it to its own devices whilst they concentrate on the newest one.

How old is DS?

Ask to see the evidence that your DS kicked the dog (there won't be)

Ask why they enabled the dog - that they know is fear aggressive - to escape - and why they didn't call it when they ' saw the dog get kicked' (they alledge)
Ask them how they plan to contain their animals in future , and tell them you won't hesitate to go to the Police if they escape again.
Also find the number for the dog warden

The responsibility lies with them.

Report. Dangerous Dog Act is very clear on if you feel threatened etc.

Sorry end of my post didn't make sense
I meant to say they just give up on a dog if it is too much for them and replace it with another one that they think will be easier.

Report the dog. It deserves to get proper help. I hope your ds is ok
