When did your teen ds have a growth spurt?

SemiAquaticEggLayingMammal · 14/07/2018 21:16

Ds1 is 13, just finishing yr8. He's still a bit thin and reedy in that pre-pubescent boyish way, bless him.

He's always been slightly built but tall and athletic. This last fortnight he has started eating me out if house and home, I just can't keep enough food in the house to satisfy his appetite 🤣

He is going to turn into a man over the summer isn't he? Have I only got a few weeks left of him being my little boy? :(

ds didn't shoot up until he was just turning 15.
He had been growing outwards for a couple of years before that though.

Hassled · 14/07/2018 22:35

All 3 of mine had/have massive appetites as teenagers, but the sudden growth spurt never really happened - it was slow and steady. Some of DS3's friends (15/16) seem half a foot taller than they were last September though.

neversleepagain · 14/07/2018 22:38

At secondary school my husband was the shortest boy in his class until he grew like a weed at age 15. He is now 6'4.

Bouledeneige · 14/07/2018 22:41

He went mad from about 14. Still going strong at nearly 16. Tall, square shoulders, adams apple, armpit hair, and odours.

Damn handsome.

Armchairanarchist · 14/07/2018 22:44

Around 15. He was the smallest in his year. He shot up to six foot. I'm 5'3 and DH is 5'7.

Notso · 14/07/2018 23:07

My teen DS just seems to steadily creep upwards in height.
However one of his friends from scouts finished for the summer last year a small angelic looking child and started back seemingly a foot taller with a deep voice and noticeable stubble!

Between 13 and 15 they go from boy size to man size!

agnurse · 15/07/2018 00:31

Boys usually start puberty a little later than girls so this is likely normal. I have four younger brothers and a younger sister, so I'm well familiar with the eating habits of teenage boys. Teenage boy = bottomless pit in many cases. My SIL likes to tell the story of the first time she came to dinner. It was her, Mum, Dad, and I think 3 of my brothers. It was French toast night (Mum would put all the crusts of the loaves of bread in the freezer and add in extra hot dog or hamburger buns and then fry up the lot as French toast when the freezer got full). Mum made an entire roasting pan heaping with French toast. This is the pan she uses for the Christmas turkey, to give an idea of the size. SIL said they were never going to eat that. Mum said "Watch". By the end of the night it was totally empty.

DramaAlpaca · 15/07/2018 00:34

Age 14 for all three of mine. All of them overtook me in height by 14 & as I'm 5'10 that's good going Smile

SemiAquaticEggLayingMammal · 15/07/2018 00:53

I can already see his legs starting to "chunk up" and I think his shoulders are broadening a bit. Plus his jaw isn't quite as round and soft as it was. He is 5ft 4 and wears size 8 shoes, and although not skinny thin he's athletically built with v narrow hips (school trousers are a nightmare!)

I know it's coming but I just wanted to hold on to my little boy for a final summer. Wail!

Can someone pass me a grip please?

Age 13, from memory he grew about five inches in six months and overtook everybody else in the house. By fourteen he was just under six foot and still growing.

Nat6999 · 15/07/2018 00:57

My 14 year old DS is 5'11", size 10 Feet but quite chunky, my DB is 6'4" & my Grandad was 6'1". I get the feeling that he still has some growing to do, he never stops eating, wears XL/2XL men's clothing, walks 2-3 miles a day, all of a sudden he is sleeping for England, this from a child who has been known to only sleep 3 hours max due to his ASD.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 15/07/2018 01:01

Ds turned 12 and started hugh school 2 weeks later...from then for 1 year he matured in every way possible and I didn't know that was possible. Cling on to your little boy.

Chocolatehamper · 15/07/2018 01:07

My son has always been taken for older than he is. He is 5'8", 11 stone, size 10 feet - built like the proverbial brick outhouse and he turned 12 last month!
He's the same height of his father and towers over me... there's no sign of him stopping!
Normally, he'll 'chunk out' for about a month then he'll shoot up another inch or more. Hairy legs are starting to make an appearance but he's very blonde so it's not obvious, voice is starting to deepen and the joys of smelly boys does linger but he hasn't quite got the hang of deodorant yet... 😳😂

Semster · 15/07/2018 01:11

OP, I think your son = my son.

He went for a sleepover last night. Came home this morning. I asked him what he ate for breakfast.

"14 pancakes."

elliejjtiny · 15/07/2018 01:22

My eldest boy has just turned 12 but at 4ft 11in he is still fairly short and with no signs of puberty yet. He still plays with his lego and his trains but I'm conscious that at some point soon he will suddenly turn into a man and I don't think I'm ready for that yet. The other day he fell asleep in the car and I took a photograph because I thought it may well be the last time he does that.

SemiAquaticEggLayingMammal · 15/07/2018 08:10

It's just so bittersweet isnt it. I sniffed his school tshirt yesterday after picking it up from the floor where it had been thrown, and instead of the soft little-boy smell that i was expecting, that I used to get a good dose of when he snuggled up on my lap for a cuddle, it smelled of football boots and Lynx Africa.

Ds3 is just about to start primary too in September and I think its thrown into contrast how much ds1 has changed since he was starting primary. (Ds1 and ds3 are v similar, ds2 is a law unto himself Grin)

I'd like all this growing up business to stop please.

My ds is currently exactly the same height as me, I’m said that he’ll only ever be taller than me now
