To start being a Spurs supporter?

In my mid-twenties now, and so far, I’ve never really been into football. Neither are my friends or any of the rest of my family, apart from my Dad, who’s a particularly passionate Spurs supporter.

I loved watching the World Cup this year although, and this year was probably the first time I’ve ever got into it properly.

I’m really proud of the England team and thought they did particularly well to get so far this year. I definitely got caught up in how excited everyone’s been about the World Cup and reckon that this year is the first time ever I’ve probably watched a football match from start to finish. Sounds silly, but it’s really made me realise how exciting football is, and why people get so into it.

I used to be a (very) half-hearted Chelsea supporter (I can’t even remember why I started supporting them Blush) but lost interest a couple of years ago.

Would I be unreasonable to now start supporting Spurs? I think it would be a really nice thing to share with my Dad and I think they’ve become a pretty good team now.

I remember as a child, a group of friends of mine decided to just be Newcastle United fans. We came from a small village in Essex. Never could work that one out.

Yes they’re a fucking joke all their fans are going on about how good they are but they win fuck all even when arsenal couldn’t make the top 4 for the first ever time under Wenger they still won more than spurs.

@ConstanceVigilance
As a spurs season ticket holder, I would say yes, do it ! But you are condemning yourself to a lifetime of disappointment and what ifs!

Ha, you think you've got it bad. Try being a Sunderland supporter. Hmm Grin

WhiteHartLane · 14/07/2018 20:19

If you have nerves of steel go for it Grin

My maternal Grandparents were huge fans and took me to my 1st game and I was hooked from then.

Agree with pp though, they sadly have a habit of choking at the last hurdle but they play exciting football whilst doing it.

Snickerdoodles · 14/07/2018 23:53

@PsychedelicSheep yes, exactly - you’re so right! :) (I think you could do a lot worse, former underdogs with a bit more to them these days but not a big 'glory hunter' team like Man U or Chelsea.)

Even DH (Arsenal supporter) reckons they play exciting football, we went to the last Arsenal / Spurs match at Wembley and he had to admit he was impressed

Missymoomum · 15/07/2018 18:09

Not bu at all!!! I started supporting Spurs after the 1990 World Cup partly because my dad supported them and partly because of Linekar and Gazza. Still love them 28 years later Grin although as pp has said be prepared for disappointment quite often!!

If you have literally no commitment you can choose your team.

Once you have a commitment YOU MUST NEVER CHANGE THAT.

Spurs have got a bloody brilliant team. But i’m Cursed forever more with being an Aberdeen supporter.
