to dislike sharing pens at work

I work in an office and when people come in to see me and ask to borrow a pen to jot something down I always give them a pen I don't normally use. I hate sharing my "normal" pens and having others touch them with god knows what germs on their hands.

DH thinks I'm loony.

AIBU? OR AM I NOT ALONE IN THIS?

I don't know if you have Staples there, but they sell antimicrobial pens. I don't care about the germs, u just don't want people stealing my pens. But you might like them.

Oh they are all my pens... I bought them all as work provided pens are crap. I even bought some crappy ones to let people use if need be.

I think it comes from when I started working here and was on patrol talking to numerous members of public. Someone once chewed the end of my pen and it made me gip.

So no, they are all my own pens and as for OCD... I'm not sure, but I do have anxiety and that shows itself in ways of having things in "a certain way".

Thinking about some other replies too - I have a nice collection of different pens that I enjoy using (I have to make notes as part of my job), i also collect notebooks (at home and bought myself before anyone says it's office stuff)... maybe I have an office supply fetish.

my husband will come and try take a pen off my desk... ( apparently i have millions) and ill be not that one, NO NOT THAT ONE!!!!! not that on either.. you can have..... ummmmm... this one, and hand him a cheap BIC we go as a freebie or something and he will look at me like im mental... as i explain exactly why he cant have the pens and what they are used for etc etc.... now i buy boxes of cheap bic's just for him to use so i dont have to share my pretties

Yanbu. Pens are precious. I always had cheapo bics to lend out if people asked. The number of times they came back with the ends chewed off- blurgh they went straight in the bin.

I have pens I lend out and then my pens for me to use.
I like my pens to flow a certain way when i write and there's no way I'm lending them out at all. Not a chance.

Couldn't care less about the germs. I hate the idea of someone taking one of my nice pens off with them.

Too invested in pens maybe?
