To visit I my family with a swollen neck??

I am supposed to be going up to see my family today, including my elderly granny and a 2 month old baby.

Problem is my face/gland on one side of my face swelled up on Thursday and has gotten even worse today. I don't feel Ill, have no temperature, throat isn't sore, no painful teeth- basically just a painful swollen face/neck?!

Do I still go and see them or should I stay away?

Could it also be your thyroid gland which is swollen? (Goiter?) that can also cause palpitations?

NapoleonsNose · 14/07/2018 19:31

Could it be a thyroid cyst? I woke up with a painful neck one morning. Went to the GP who reckoned I'd bled into a cyst. By the next day i was in so much pain I was admitted to hospital and the swelling was something else.

Took weeks to return to normal, and I was a nervous wreck for a while after an irresponsible sonographer made a remark about cancer, but all was fine and it was a bleed into a cyst.

My dad is going to take me to A and E in the morning if it is no better. I appreciate all your concerns and will have it thoroughly investigated. The palpitations have gone now anyway so it's just the swollen neck. Will update tomorrow, thanks again xx

applesandpears - i think you are seeing things! First you said I had dismissed the OP’s symptoms and then you say I’ve chosen to point out that it’s probably nothing serious - if you RTFT you will see that I haven’t actually said anything to the OP, my only comments so far have been directed at you.

OP - good luck at the hospital.

Swelling has gone right down so didn't go to hospital. Will see how it is in the morning and decide weather to go to the docs or not.

Good news that it’s better today recovering.

recoveringmummy · 16/07/2018 16:17

Been to the docs, got an infected gland and a swollen tonsil with white spots on?! Still don't feel Ill but have been given antibiotics and anti inflammatories. Nothing dramatic just a regular illness!

Suck on a lemon. My DH had it a few months ago. Did this and it cleared within minutes of doing it

Whoops, didn’t see your post! Sorry!

Canshopwillshop · 16/07/2018 18:47

Glad you’ve got the right treatment now OP and glad it’s not cancer, heart failure or bubonic plague!
