To want to know how to sleep next to someone with restless leg syndrome?

We already have separate duvets. Each time he kicks his legs, it vibrates through the mattress like the ripples of a stone thrown into a pond.

I don’t really understand the mattress types. Has anyone survived similar?

lay something like a thick towel over his feet but on top of the bedding. It helped.

I have experience but no answer. When you get one please let me know!

Has he tried magnesium? My mum has terrible restless legs and bought spray on magnesium as it absorbs quickly and she says it’s great.

abbsisspartacus · 14/07/2018 07:41

Memory foam doesn't vibrate

Lonecatwithkitten · 14/07/2018 07:44

Getting the right drugs, my restless legs are due to low B12. DP always tells me when my next injection is due as my legs twitch st night. When I am topped up I have no twitching.

It helps to have cotton sheets and cotton nightclothes. No synthetic fibres next to the skin.

Can someone please explain restless legs. Is it a kicking motion? Or more of a twitch?

DH kicks and it drives me crazy. On bad nights I give up and sleep on the couch. I always thought restless legs was more of a twitching though

I have magnesium spray i got for something else, but if it has a chance of working on DH to stop his kicking I will gladly give it to him

frasier · 14/07/2018 11:45

We have a zip and link bed. Two single mattresses zipped together. DH doesn’t have rls but he’s a big turneroverer! There is no vibrations or ripples, it’s as if I’m in a bed on my own.

The down side is a ridge in the middle but a mattress topper helps that.

Another plus is that I like a firm mattress, DH not so much. We have different ones!

You can get medication to help. Speak to GP.
Also, consider two single beds instead of one double. Near enough together but not enough to disturb each other.

silversfish · 14/07/2018 11:56

dont just get separate beds

aurynne · 14/07/2018 11:56

Different beds

jenniferjane21 · 14/07/2018 11:58

We bought a bed made in Germany where there are 2 single mattresses in one king size bed frame. It's great! I think they are quite common in Germany and the make is Hulsta.

Hope you find something that helps.

I take ropinerole prescribed by the gp. Without it I would be in agonies of twitching and stretching all night.

SeaToSki · 14/07/2018 12:08

YOu can take magnesium pills too. I take 100% of the daily allowance evey night, I also bathe in epsom salt baths which helps a lot.

You could try a foam topper on the bed as it deadens movement transmission. If you can afford a new mattress, get memory foam. I dont even notice my DH getting out of bed in the mornings.
