To sit and eat an ice cream whilst my child can’t sleep?

Fucking ASD misery. I’ve been in and out of the room about 30 times. I thought he’d fallen asleep with me laying next to him, but apparently he was only pretending.

I’ve been at it for 90 minutes. I’ve told him I’m having an ice cream and will then go back.

Am I really mean?!

Nope.

Mine went through a phase of not going to sleep, I'm unusually lucky he doesn't have sleep issues that a lot of kids with ASD have but it happens. I got him up and told him he wasn't allowed to go to bed and we were going to sit up all night and look at each other.

It worked though, he still mentions 'the time that....' Grin

Enjoy your ice cream.

I would have had a wine instead of an ice cream. I hope he sleeps soon.

Excellent idea. I’ll remember wine for next time (obviously hope there won’t be a next time, but anyway!).

He got to sleep around 11.30 and is grumpy as fuck today.

My 10 year old doesn't have a diagnosis though has gone through an assessment and might do again as school etc are convinced 'something's going on' with him. Anyway, he often spends hours pottering around his bedroom before he goes to sleep. We usually just leave him to it as he doesn't really disturb us, we just hear him moving around if we are in the living room as his bedroom is above it. Consequently, he is a nightmare to get up on a school morning and, though we have never been late, we make it to school each morning by the skin of our teeth.

Last night he shouted downstairs at 11pm that he couldn't sleep. We told him there was literally nothing we could do to help him but that if he actually turned off his light, got into bed, closed his eyes and stayed there it would probably work. But this morning, when he could have had a lie in, he was up by 8am!
