Now i have your attention;0) it’s been years since we had nits here. WHat do I do? What works nowadays? I have hearin, wet combing with a nittygritty until she has had most hair ripped out at the roots. Tea tree oil. What else?

I have just discovered my itching wasn’t in my mind either!

Ok feel free to scratch now....

They are a nightmare aren't they!! We've had them over and over again for the last few years - we get rid of them, think we're clear and then a few weeks later they're back! Someone at school clearly isn't getting rid properly but hey!

I find combing through several times a week and if we find anything, treat with Full Marks or something similar. I prefer the 5 minute mousse one for ease of application and washing out.

The overnight treatment is much more effective. Really soak the hair.
If you comb follow the instructions exactly eg conditioner and section hair. Every three days for 21 days.

Depends on the hair... my DD’s is really fine so any over the counter stuff works immediately. However, mine is really thick so the only way to get rid for me is to dump half a bottle of conditioner on my head and comb comb comb for 2-3 days

We've had great success with the short "hunting" comb, then hedrin once then wash then conditioner and nitty-gritty.

I use jo Malone shower gel to wash out the hedrin. It seems to work well for removing the greasiness.

Nitty gritty comb and lots of conditioner...every day till the cycle is broken.
Lots of people have given up on chemical treatments now....

Hedrin to kill live ones, then nitty gritty with conditioner. I found a first comb through with white detection combs and then using nitty gritty worked well. I also used hair straighteners. You need to be consistent and comb repeatedly over a few weeks to make sure you have really got rid of them.

As a child/teenager I had nits for years, my sisters and I kept catching them and giving them to each other. It was a nightmare.

The shampoos didn't work, nit combing was torture - you only have to miss one. And even if you manage to get them all, they'll probably catch them again tomorrow.

And then a miracle happened. I discovered hair straighteners. I became addicted to having shiny, straight har, and they got rid of the nits within a month! I truly believe heat from hair dryers and and hair straighteners is a quick and easy way to get rid of them, both due to the heat and the fact it makes the hair unliveable for headlice. I never caught nits again Grin

I think healgh professionals don't like to talk about it and advise this though, as they don't want parents going mad and heat damaging their kids' hair. But I swear by it.

Cheap conditioner slick it on and a nitty gritty comb. It is torturous but we did it every other night for 3 weeks. After the nitty gritty comb wash with a nit repelling shampoo (We used Vosene kids live repellent) and every morning used the Vosene defence spray which is Citronella based
