To ask if fringes are officially out of fashion?

Noticed only last week that I'm the only adult I know who has one and the girls at dd's school don't either! Have decided to grow mine out but it looks terrible at the moment as it's curled on the ends like twin Poirot moustaches. How did I miss the death of the fringe? Did Claudia Winkleman put everyone off?!

Shit, I have one. I have to, as I have a forehead like max headroom!

slowsloegin · 12/07/2018 22:41

I was looking at a woman on the train with a fringe this morning, as it happens, thinking "her fringe looks great. Maybe I should get a fringe"

But - I neither know nor care about what's in!

There's definitely at least two of you in the world anyway!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/07/2018 22:43

I think they're coming back! Blonde highlights and a full fringe.

It's odd for me to see them coming in (mostly girls in their twenties) because I associate it with the mums when I was at prep school in the nineties.

AsleepAllDay · 12/07/2018 22:45

Twin Poirot moustaches Grin

I always get one cut in hope but then find it too much faff so let it grow out!

LockedOutOfMN · 12/07/2018 22:47

I watched the film 'The Bookshop' last week and was quite taken by Emily Mortimer's character's fringe. (The film is set in 1959). I think it was because I hadn't seen anyone with a fringe for ages; they seem to have generally fallen out of favour as the centre parted shoulder length look is everywhere - copying the likes of Olivia Palermo, Hailee Baldwin, the Kardashian/Jenner's, Caroline Flack, and many more (even though I'm sure 99% of people aren't trying to emulate these women).

I look crap with a fringe so no temptation for me.

I grew mine out and have just had it cut back in
I'm in no way whatsoever a fashionista I just thought it might be more flattering to my ageing face

BoomBoomsCousin · 12/07/2018 22:51

Polkadots is right - they're coming back. I know this because I've just grown mine out and I always jump the shark.

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/07/2018 22:51

Fringes are the best.

Started growing mine out last year which was driving me nuts, saw a photo from the year before and how good I looked and how I always felt a bit more “done” with it so cut it back in and haven’t looked back.

Sallystyle · 12/07/2018 22:52

I had one done about 6 months ago now. It is thick and straight. The best style decision I have ever made.

Loads of people I know have fringes.

Mine is in a desperate need of a cut. I always leave it too long.

SavageBeauty73 · 12/07/2018 22:55

I have a fringe as I'm too scared to have Botox.

TooManyPaws · 12/07/2018 22:59

I've had a fringe for most of my life as I look terrible without one - a very rectangular face with narrow temples. I just have to look at my primary school photos if I ever feel tempted to grow it out.

Davros · 12/07/2018 23:05

Cheaper than Botox

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/07/2018 23:07

I have a fringe otherwise I am a. Slaphead.

itsclaire · 12/07/2018 23:10

Davros Very true. And covers up the needle marks if you’ve just had it!

Amanduh · 12/07/2018 23:11

The majority of school aged girls I know have one. Adults wise we’re about 60/40!
They’re not out of fashion at all though.

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 12/07/2018 23:11

I've had a fringe for the last 8 years and have just grown it out. Prior to that I had one up u til I grew it out in my teens, then cut it back in my 20s. I grew mine it because it had gone a bit funny and I just haven't had my hair cut in so long I thought I'd have a change for a bit

Lovestonap · 12/07/2018 23:12

I have always had a fringe - I have a really narrow forehead when compared to the rest of my face so I need one - I'm just glad to have something to cover the forehead wrinkles

Crunched · 12/07/2018 23:14

Chloe Moretz is a fashionista isn’t she? With a curtain fringe I believe.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 12/07/2018 23:16

I've got a fringe, I had no idea whether it is in or out of fashion but I have seen a lot of people with fringes recently

Boulshired · 12/07/2018 23:17

I like mine and it means no plucking of eyebrows. None of DDs (15/16) female classmates have one. They all have long hair either straightened or with the bottom third curled. They all lookalike, it’s quite sad seeing very little individuality.

PickAChew · 12/07/2018 23:20

Wear what suits you.

UrgentScurryfunge · 12/07/2018 23:22

I cut one in on impulse earlier in the year. Quite a heavy, blunt one and I've been pleasantly surprised at how well it's behaved. It hides the frown lines beautifully. I'd like to think I look younger, but the truth is that I've blundered back to the haircut I had at 15. Not such a bad thing as the fashions from the mid-nineties are back to go with it Grin

Fabellini · 13/07/2018 00:31

I’ve got some scars on my forehead....will have my fringe forever!

Louiselouie0890 · 13/07/2018 01:40

I have to. I have a food you could play football on. I thank god everyday my children didn't inherit it 😂
