Post Brexit as we turn our backs on Europe could UEFA tell us to sod off?

OP posts:

You do know that Eurovision is nothing to do with being the EU?

It was a joke! Clearly Australia have never been in the EU.

SoupDragon · 12/07/2018 08:05

The point was that Eurovision is nothing to do with the EU anyway.

NerrSnerr · 12/07/2018 08:08

I know. The OP asked if someone was serious about not being able to do Eurovision and I was being sarcastic because if Eurovision was anything to do with the EU then Australia would never have been in it.

AgentJohnson · 12/07/2018 08:13

The point was that Eurovision is nothing to do with the EU anyway.

Er, yeah it is but given the admittance of Israel and Australia, they obviously aren’t too attached to geography in this particular incarnation.

meditrina · 12/07/2018 08:13

The level of confusion between 'European' and 'what is a matter for the EU' is quite scary.

Then again, I was derided for pointing out that ignorance about the World Cup (the stuff that was major sorry in news media, not every detail) shows a worrying lack of attention to current affairs. It's a reflection, I think, of the changed demographic of MN. Not everyone does pay that much attention, and it is wrong to assume they should.

BrexitWife · 12/07/2018 08:14

That’s ok then. We can have the Euro cup and the Eurovision so all is well in the world Hmm

GlacindaTheTroll · 12/07/2018 08:14

'I hear trump is coming to advise us on how to build our wall'

He's too late by nearly a couple of millennia.

lavendargreen · 12/07/2018 08:15

@CupOfCake

I can only assume you are joking/taking the piss. I bloody hope so. If not, yours is the dumbest thread of the week! Of COURSE we won't be stopped from going into Euro 2020. FFS!!! We will still be part of Europe! Hmm And as has been said, plenty of other European countries who are not in the UK play in the Euro Cup!!! (And sing in Eurovision!)

@BluthsFrozenBananas

Yep, once Brexit kicks in the moorings which keep mainland UK tethered to Europe will be cut and we’ll be left to drift off into the Atlantic, so won’t be part of the continent anymore. Of course it’s a bit harder with Ireland, but I hear there’s plans afoot to chip off the bit which is part of the UK...

PMSL! Grin

The scary thing is that some people do actually THINK this. That we are 100% leaving Europe, and we will never be allowed there again, (and probably be exiled from the rest of the world actually!) Shock

The sad and worrying thing is, that these people voted to remain in the EU, and actually thought they knew what they were doing, when in actual fact, they are clueless as to what the EU actually is!!!

SoupDragon · 12/07/2018 08:17

The point was that Eurovision is nothing to do with the EU anyway.

Er, yeah it is

It’s the European Broadcasting Union.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/07/2018 08:20

To be fair to the OP, there are several different definitions of 'Europe' when you consider the political, geographical or economic aspects.

And that's before you get to the European Song Contest or who plays in Euro 2020, which I suspect is geographically based.

Euro 2020 - will we even be allowed in the door?
BarbaraofSevillle · 12/07/2018 08:22

If we are being geographically separated from Europe, can they tow us to somewhere with a nicer climate please?

Somewhere near the Canary Islands would be good.

Badtasteflump · 12/07/2018 08:30

Ha ha you remind me if DD when she heard about Brexit and asked if they were going to tie a huge rope around the UK and pull it out of Europe - she was 9 at the time though Smile

Cutietips · 12/07/2018 08:35

we wanted Brexit. But millions of us didn’t. Many of them that did didn’t really understand the implications. It’s really shit having people from other countries laughing openly at us when so many of us really, really didn’t want it. (And if you don’t believe me, look at all the trolls on the bbc website about England losing last night and how many are laughing about haha you deserve it because of Brexit).

SlothMama · 12/07/2018 08:43

Yes it does, because the government is planning to move our country to America... They've got the tug boats ready!! ;)

SuitedandBooted · 12/07/2018 09:18

OP, please tell me this is a joke thread....

CtrlCandCtrlV · 12/07/2018 09:24

its a very serious thread!
The strongest Leavers have already made plan to get away from Europe, they are also thinking about building some kind of sea wall around our coasts, flood the current channel tunnel and build a bigger one straight through the Atlantic.

We are ensure what will happen between Northern Ireland and the Republic Ireland, but I am sure they have a plan - another wall maybe? They are making a revival these days.

MissionItsPossible · 12/07/2018 09:31

I'm cringing.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/07/2018 09:33

they are also thinking about building some kind of sea wall around our coasts, flood the current channel tunnel and build a bigger one straight through the Atlantic

They can think all they like, only a complete idiot would think any of that is remotely feasible with the possible exception of flooding/blocking up the Channel Tunnel.

CtrlCandCtrlV · 12/07/2018 09:36

You seemed to have completely missed the sarcasm there BarbaraofSevillle Grin Grin Grin

CtrlCandCtrlV · 12/07/2018 09:38

at least we'll still have the 6 Nations

Euro 2020 - will we even be allowed in the door?
Hawkie · 12/07/2018 09:51

If we are being geographically separated from Europe, can they tow us to somewhere with a nicer climate please?

Earth's Mantle says No. Punishment for all the people that voteD to leave means they are taking us somewhere cooler. And wetter.

thor86 · 12/07/2018 09:51

3.5 Nations when you remove the EU teams

Typhers · 12/07/2018 12:09

The real geographical question here is the debatable question “is Russia part of Europe?” and after we drift away into the Atlantic once our rope is cut from the mainland..... will Russia join the EU? 🤓

Whipsmart · 12/07/2018 12:29

Voters who wanted to separate themselves and screw foreigners should see the full consequences and be entitled to completely isolate themselves.

Right, because that's the only reason why anyone voted for Brexit Hmm

Not because the EU are a bureaucratic nightmare - one example of their money-wasting is the way they move offices every month to the tune of £150 million a year news.sky.com/story/meps-on-the-move-madness-of-strasbourg-shift-10293596 (weirdly under-reported).

And as for screwing foreigners, maybe check out how well African farmers are doing while the EU's common agricultural policy excludes them.

I would never make sweeping statements about why people voted to stay in the EU, but threads like this one do make me wonder how many remainers voted that way because they thought they wouldn't be allowed to go on holiday in Europe if we left...

specialsubject · 12/07/2018 12:37

...or that Tarquin and Cressida would no longer be able to spend their gap yah selling drugs in Magaluf, as so many do now...

The whole thing is Farage vs Geldof screaming at each other on the Thames, how embarrassing was that. No-one can cope with the idea that not everyone is at one of these extremes, although sadly many politicians are.

there is a lot that is good about the EU. And a lot that isn't. But we had no power to change it while we were in. And certainly won't now.

pity really, it could all work so well if everyone got their heads out of their arses and the gravy trains were stopped.
