Clothes coming out of washing machine with holes in!

Does anyone know what’s causing this so I can put a stop to it. It’s going to cost a fortune. It’s a series of small holes at the front of a t shirt / top. It doesn’t seem to be on any trousers or anything. Thanks if anyone can shed any light.

I’ve checked for hard bits in the machine and can’t feel any. It could be overfilling. I will make sure I leave some space and see if that helps. Carpet moths?? I will have a google.

I had this. It stopped when I cleaned out the washing machine pump filter thing...inside were very sharp pieces of limescale from the pipes.

Moths!!

Its not your washing machine - it is where your tshirt is getting pinched between jeans button or belt buckle and your desk or perhaps counter surface. It makes tiny holes. I think the washing just aggravates/ opens them up. That is why it is always in the same area. Most common on soft knits/ tshirts etc.

Could be carpet beetles but if that were the case, you'd also have sections of munched carpet looking a bit bare. (When people say carpet moths) My thinnest, cheapest shirts get holes so I think it is more likely to be something rubbing in the wash generally.

Ok we had this for quite a while a couple of years ago. We also thought it was our belts rubbing but thought it too coincidental that it had suddenly started happening to both of us. So we started thinking about things that we both did and finally tracked it to the cheaper brand of washing up liquid we were using at that time. I always put the liquid in the bowl first then turn on the tap and I presume the impact of the water hitting the bowl was causing a very fine spray mist and forcibly directing it towards the person standing at the sink. When we went back to using a market leader brand the problem went away. The branded liquid costs more but our clothes no longer end up in the bin. Hope this helps.
