I'm 32 and I passed my driving test at 22.
First time with 1 fault (no clue how)
I drove for a month and couldn't do it.
I was a nervous wreck,I rolled back on hills, stalled etc.
I gave up.
Three months ago I started taking auto refresher lessons.
After 10 lessons I felt good.
Yesterday I bought a car ..it's a multi mode car.
No clutch pedal so no worry of staling.
I would drive it fully auto.
I drove home yesterday and first thing I did was nearly crash into parked car..my instructors car you had to put your foot down to get it moving and my brain thought this would be the same.
Luckily I didn't hit it and managed to drive home (only 15 mins)
Now I'm terrified again that I won't be able to learn how much gas I need to give it etc and worrying il roll back on a hill etc.
I wish I wasn't like this,I love my new little car.
It's only a 1litre engine.
Any tips would be great and if anyone can tell me if I'm on a small hill with a roundabout ..how I move off without rolling back?

I am currently in the same position as you to a degree. I passed my test about 13 years ago (3rd attempt here though however!) I didn't have a car at the time, drove my husbands a couple of times but hated it and then didn't drive again for a few years, drove a couple of times, hated, then stopped (can you see a pattern developing) I had a further attempt about 5 years ago and was starting to get the hang of it and the gears again......and then a skip lorry cut the corner and clipped me!

Long story short up until about a month again I hadn't driven a car as many times as years I'd had my licence. Last month I decided I was gonna give it one final shot but decided to opt for an automatic as stalling stressed me. I ended up with a semi-automatic too, I have a mitsubishi colt. Last few weeks I've gone out on small little drives on familiar routes with my husband almost acting as my driving instructor and I'm 'starting' to love it lol. I was just like you when I first started, I overthink things and am hyper critical of myself. I stress about going out before going but am so pleased with myself when I've done it. I had a bit of a roll back on Sunday, but i wasn't quick enough off the brake onto to the gas, in future I shall use the handbrake so I'm straight on the gas. I find the gear changes a little jerky and late but my husband says when it sounds like it needs to change to ease off the accelarator slightly and then push it back and it should then change quicker.

Sorry, that was an epic post but I really do get exactly where you are coming from, the feeling like a failure, the overthinking but with time and practice I'm sure it will come, I'm so looking forward to the freedom it will give me!!

Good luck!
