To be pissed off with the council’s way of recycling clothes

Now I’m all in favour of getting rid of and charging of plastic bags and have since the beginning. I’m also happy to see them in none of the shops where i am.

However the council have decided that they pick up some items separately every bin day for recycling which includes clothes and small electrical appliances. But to be able to do this you have to put them all in plastic bags!!!

I want to recycle the clothes that can’t be passed on, but don’t have any plastic bags or access to transport to give them to the recycling centre

AIBU to think they’re just contradicting themselves on the plastic bag issue, and making it harder for people to recycle more.

Could you ring them and see if they will accept anything else, such as a cardboard box?

I will do. Just don’t understand their thinking. It doesn’t even say on the website about any alternatives, just carrier bag.

You could use a bin liner. I guess it's just easier to handle if you are chucking vast numbers of tied bags around than loose clothing.

My council apparently does this. Most times the clothing is just left in the box to get drenched by rain. Note bags must be unfastened to enable checking of contents.

Just give to charity shops. They will recycle what can't be sold.
