Another 5p.

Starbucks is going to knock us for 5p per paper cup. We are already paying 5p per plastic carrier bag. Why are we paying for this? We consumers didnt ask suppliers to dispense with returnable glass bottles and paper bags and fill our lives with plastic. Having done so we now have to pay to get rid of it. It cant be impossible to make a recyclable coffee cup can it? I'm annoyed.

They have these wonderful inventions nowadays called flasks.Maybe try one of those.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/07/2018 11:19

Oh those are lovely DontMakeMe I'd love the rose gold one to go with my phone and my purse lol.The only problen is that they're not leak-proof,which I think for that price they should be.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/07/2018 11:49

You could always go for the leak-proof flask in rose gold! Grin

Bring your own cup, or at the very least, carry around a plastic lid so you can avoid the plastic component. It's not so hard.

The cup itself is not recyclable, Rivendell. I assume what looks like cardboard has some sort of plastic component or lining to help stop it leaking.

I've had my bamboo cup for about a year and going strong. It costs a couple of quid from The Works.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/07/2018 12:54

I am one of the increasing numbers of “shoulder bag workers” traispingbaround the place. I don’t really have the room in my laptop bag for a cup, nor want the weight of one. I have seen collapsable ones but apparently they don’t last long

What's a shoulder bag worker? One who sits for hours in Starbucks nursing a cup of coffee and using the WiFi? In this case you can buy your coffee in a mug.

InfiniteVariety · 11/07/2018 14:35

llongwayoff you are being conveniently selective in where you see the chain of responsibility beginning and ending! If we want to deal with the mess the environment is currently in, we ALL have to play a part

longwayoff · 11/07/2018 15:08

Ooh thanks infinite id never thought of that.

The cups are recyclable, but have to go to specific plants. Ice cream tubs at the theatre are the same — my local theatre has a dedicated recycling bin for them.

PinkHeart5914 · 11/07/2018 16:19

I think paying an extra 5p is fine, for people that get a coffee a few times a year. Anyone buying regular coffee out should be using a reuse able cup anyway.

It’s like plastic bags I rarely see anyone use one now, even in clothing stores must people have canvas bags with them.

We should all do our bit!

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/07/2018 16:29

Can anyone link to a decent resuasable cup which folds down? I don’t have space in my work bag for a full size mug.
