To have panic spent £100 on desperately trying to resolve my period pain?

I've just dropped £100 on various probably quack nonsense attempted resolutions of the period pain which is absolutely crippling me. God knows if any of it will work but I have to try something! I can't go on spending three days of every month barely able to function because my pain is so bad Sad

Some of my desperate night time purchases were a tens machine, mooncup and period underwear. I have heard that a mooncup helps some women with the pain and I am willing to try anything! I find tampons uncomfortable though so it might not work for me. I also bought primrose oil and heat pads. Something has to work!

Thank you all for these really helpful suggestions. I'm going to take it all to my GP and try to get somewhere.

@snackerextraordinaire that sounds awful, I'm so sorry

I bought Livia, a sort of mini tens device specifically marketed for period pain.
It was being advertised on Facebook and I too bought it in night time desperation!
It certainly helps - I would recommend it.
(Reduces pain but not heaviness of period of course).

Hopefully whatever the cause, it's not severe and is easily treated.

On the plus side you'll probably find when you do go through labour, like me you'll find it comparatively less painful than the painful periods.

I was dreading labour thinking it'd have to be even more painful, instead I didn't even notice! Wasn't until I was hooked up to a monitor and midwife said "yep you're in full labour" that I knew!

I agree, please see a gynae consultant.

I suffered for over 25 years. I had scans and laparoscopy including vaginal scans. My gp fobbed me off constantly saying it was just part of being a woman.

My renal doctor referred me to gynae before my kidney transplant. Although they did the scans and biopsy etc they was not certain but he felt something was wrong and we agreed on hysterectomy.

Only after the surgery he discovered I had extensive endometriosis including bowel involvement and adenomyosis. This was not clear in any of my tests and scans.

He said no woman should have to suffer in this day and he was shocked at how bad it was once he operated.

I feel like a different woman and wish I had it done instead of sterilisation.

Good luck xx

Keep pushing your GP for a referral to Gynae. It maddens me how menstrual problems aren’t treated seriously. It can be seriously debilitating.

OP I doubt this is relevant for you but I'm putting it here in case it helps someone reading. Sorry for the mini hijack!

Try magnesium pills. It is apparently something that gets checked routinely in some parts of the world but not here. I found taking a supplement really helped me. Obviously still get checked out too and don't be robbed off as so many doctors seem to do.

Also suggest naproxen
And getting that acid drug ( sorry it was mentioned)

Mine are all Ok since I had a melon sized fibroid removed - hang tight and keep pushing

Have you heard of adenomyosis? It’s like endometriosis. It’s very hard to diagnose, it’s took me 7 years to finally find out what has been wrong with me. They tried everything, some procedures making it worse, but finally I’m having a hysterectomy next week now. Hysterectomy is the only cure for adenomyosis, if it’s endometriosis you have, that can be cut out, rather than a hysterectomy

Majodom76 · 21/10/2018 01:50

My doc also treated me like a hypochondriac. I’m on a support group on Facebook and this seems to be very common with most woman’s doctors unfortunately. Woman’s health in the uk feels like the Victorian era still. It’s barbaric what we have to suffer and for how long. If it was men having to go through anything even remotely similar to the pains we have, yet, in their penises, it would be treated so much differently
