To be really missing ribena and lucazade

I used to love these occasionally on a hot day when dehydrated, now both taste like shit and give me a headache. Why?! I'm in great shape and not overweight I just want a drink a couple of times a month!

I don’t like blueberries either but the belvoir blueberry and blackcurrent cordial is bloody lush! Actually prefer it to ribena. Dd prefers it too.

It says to keep it in the fridge but I don’t and it’s fine.

dinosaurkisses · 11/07/2018 00:06

My mate’s twat of an ex has started a crowdfunder to reverse engineer the old-style lucozade and relaunch it under a new brand.

The description on his scheme’s Facebook page explains that he stockpiled a large number of bottles once he heard about the changes coming in. Maybe he would be willing to sell some to the highest bidding poster Grin

gluteustothemaximus · 11/07/2018 00:07

Waitrose do the last lemonade with sugar. They also do cloudy lemonade.

Waitrose own squash, there are 2 or 3 sugar versions.

Tesco do NOTHING without sweeteners now. Their high juice used to be good.

I miss Ribena, lucozade, Capri sun, Vimto, Irn Bru, sprite, 7up, tango, Dr Pepper, and all the other companies who have swapped taste for profits.

Thank god for coke. Was heavenly when we’d had stomach bugs the other week.

Fuck you jamie Oliver. Sugar tax the crap outta things yet make a cook book on cakes Hmm

WattdeEll · 11/07/2018 00:14

I’m so sad at all this jiggery fuckery with drinks. Artificial sweeter is dodgy for health and tastes vile.
I do drink Belvoir and Rocks Organic, which are all lush. I kept an opened Rocks Blackcurrant one too long and it grew mould. Going to start making my own squash. Experiment number one starts as soon as I can source some blackcurrants www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/blackcurrant-cordial

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 11/07/2018 00:15

There IS a petition.

BreakfastAtLitanies · 11/07/2018 00:21

The new taste of sprite broke my heart, personally. I don't drink alcohol so this was my special treat drink Sad

wooster16 · 11/07/2018 00:28

AGBarr down 20% is false
Profits have risen according to this article on the bbc www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-scotland-scotland-business-39415738

Keeptrudging · 11/07/2018 00:32

I've got 1 can of original Irn Bru stashed for a special occasion. Belvoir juices are nice, also Fevertree ones.

Wanderlustnearorfar · 11/07/2018 00:35

I agree lemonade tastes awful and I used to love the blood orange Pellegrino the new formula is horrendous very saccharine sweet taste

DunesOfSand · 11/07/2018 01:11

Australia still has full sugar ribena! How many bottles do you think i can bring in my suitcase next week?

AngeloMysterioso · 11/07/2018 01:18

I miss Strawberry Volvic Sad a few of the little independent newsagents/corner shops near me still have the good stuff, I literally buy every bottle I find now but I know when it’s gone, it’s gone. That and Sprite. I’m half tempted to go away for a weekend and just come back with a suitcase full!

gluteustothemaximus · 11/07/2018 01:50

If profits are up it's because sweeteners are so cheap and many many times sweeter than sugar so need less.

I was hoping profits would be down.

Sugar tax is high though. The cloudy lemonade in waitrose went from 81p to £1.24. No wonder they all shat themselves and swopped sugar for sweeteners.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/07/2018 01:53

Profits might be up but sales will have plummeted. It’ll show up eventually.

LookAtThatCritter · 11/07/2018 05:17

@miggril proper lemonade is really easy to make from scratch and 1000x better than the rubbish at the grocery stores! Smile

AsleepAllDay · 11/07/2018 05:21

Because it's just sugar, that's why

Monty27 · 11/07/2018 05:23

Have an ice cream lolly Smile

MissCharleyP · 11/07/2018 05:53

I miss 7up ☹️. But Belvoir, Bottlegreen, Blossom Cottage, Cawston Press, Fentimans and Virgil’s are still sweetener free. Gutted they’ve done this, just because a few people don’t understand fizzy drinks are an occasional treat.

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/07/2018 05:57

Roses lime cordial or Waitrose, Sainsburys or M&S high juice is your friend for a ribena substitute, but possibly no blackcurrant at M&S - make sure you don't get the one that says 'no added sugar' in small writing on the front.

I got all excited at the vast range of flavours of high juice in M&S until I noticed that most flavours were only in no added sugar.

I also found old style San Pellegrino limonato in JTF (warehouse club giant Wilkos sort of place) the other day, but I fear this may be the end of old stock.

cliffdiver · 11/07/2018 06:04

@MigGril Waitrose have full sugar lemonade (own brand)

IndigoApple · 11/07/2018 06:18

The link above showing Irn Bru profit rise is from March 2017! Would be interesting to get updated figures but surely any profit rise in last 12 months will be from everyone stockpiling the old recipe?

I've managed to get old recipe San Pellegrino in Dobbies and Tiger but reckon it will run out soon. Relying on Fentimans now! Disappointing that Bundaberg and Fever Tree (except their yellow bottles/cans of tonic water) seem to contain sweeteners now.

Hamiltoes · 11/07/2018 06:32

I bought a Mars Milkshake for the first time in about a year the other week and almost threw up it was so horrendous Envy I really can't stand that fake sugar taste, it leaves an awful feeling in your mouth that's hard to describe but you can spot it a mile off. Won't be doing that again!

The thing is though all I can do is swear I won't buy it again... and since I probably averaged a bottle every 6 months before the change I can't see how they're going to notice my protest 😂

AUsernameRequired · 11/07/2018 06:41

When my 5 year old was recently prescribed antibiotics for ear infection, I was advised to avoid giving drinks with sweetener and only use sugary drinks, because the body needs the boost when fighting infection. Especially if a child is struggling to eat and drink as normal.

Crwban · 11/07/2018 06:46

I don't buy stuff like this as a rule but I thought drinks offered a sugar free version. Now and again I'll pop to Home Bargains and buy some Vimto but always the sugar one - like you all I hate the chemical sugar taste - but I assumed it was a cho be thing? They surely haven't stopped the originals?!

FlyMaybe · 11/07/2018 06:50

YANVVVU, OP. Because Vimto is MUCH better Smile

OurMiracle1106 · 11/07/2018 07:09

Artificial sweeteners give me migraines I’m happy to pay more for original full fat coke when I really fancy it than suffer for the next 3/4 days.

Surely it’s about education not removing.
I thought a healthy diet included treats? If I want a bottle of sugar filled elixir of the gods as my treat instead of Chocolate then let me!!!
