Fluoride treatment at dentists, for 5yo? / Fluorosis? Any dentists about?

Posting for traffic Went to dentist for check on DS's teeth. He is 5.5. One of his front baby teeth shows a small whiter area on it.

She said this is where the enamel has weakened due to teeth grinding and a special high fluoride treatment would help, every 6 months.

While there, she applied a special paste we had to leave on for 30mins before eating / drinking.

When l looked up the white patch online after it said it can be dental fluorosis from over consumption of fluoride which worries me as to why she would be giving him more? Might this not increase the fluorosis if that's what it is? Will it affect his adult teeth that are coming through soon?

A bit worried after all the scare stories you hear about over consumption of fluoride. Does anyone have any stories about fluorosis.

Obviously the dentist told me it was weak enamel and didn't mention fluorosis at all, if I had known beforehand this might be it I wouldn't have gone straight ahead with it at the check up.

Any experiences welcome!

Thank you.

Yes, my stepdaughter has white patches on her teeth either side of front. These are her adult teeth. Her dad always gives her fluoride toothpaste and fluoride mouthwash....Dentist never comments on them. Despite all the fluoride she had to have fillings at age 5. My 4 year-old has no white patches, no fillings, and has never used fluoride products.
The question is whether or not the marks on your child's teeth are due to.weak enamel or due to fluoride.

Interesting Pawpaw, thank you. I am wondering if we cease use of fluoride for a few months!? What are your personal thoughts about fluoride? Is there a reason you didn't give your DC it?

Fluorosis happens as the teeth are forming, so so won't effect the now erupted teeth. The dentist wouldn't prescribe something that would make it worse but they should have explained it better. Google it and you'll get some info
