To seriously worry about Wednesday?

My DD 11 has a concert performance on the same road as a lot of bars in my local city centre. My husband is away from home so I need to get her home about 10pm on public transport/taxi. It is going to be mayhem isn't it?

I would pre book a taxi now!

ReanimatedSGB · 10/07/2018 16:21

Can you prebook a taxi? I appreciate your concern (I'm going to have to travel home by train from an event on Wednesday night, too).

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 10/07/2018 16:21

Well, it will be busy and probably rowdy but if you book a taxi in advance to pick you up outside the venue, I’m not sure why you’re seriously worried?

halfwitpicker · 10/07/2018 16:21

Yes

ajandjjmum · 10/07/2018 16:22

Nothing to worry about - just need to get organised. Will you be travelling with her?

JacquesHammer · 10/07/2018 16:23

Pre-book a taxi for sure, but I wouldn’t be particularly concerned other than the business.

I travelled by train on Saturday directly after the football and it was as normal.

PineapplePatty · 10/07/2018 16:24

Yes. Is there any of her friends going who could give her a lift home?

Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:25

The road the event is on is likely to be closed. Will have to walk to somewhere to pre-book taxi?

OP posts:
Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:26

Pineapple I only know of one family and they have a car full!

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 10/07/2018 16:26

Phone a taxi company to pre book

Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:27

ajand yes I will be with her

OP posts:
Sirzy · 10/07/2018 16:28

the Taxi office will know of road closures, phone them to pre book and ask where is best to be picked up.

drearydeardre · 10/07/2018 16:30

I would be more worried about Friday the 13th Hmm. Unless you will be in a 'rough' area - you are over-worrying.
will you be home before the footie finishes (assume that is what you are worried about ) and the serious drinking starts?
I do think the 'it will all be mindless vandalism and fighting everywhere' a bit over egged by the media - it is a small minority who drink to excess and go out for a bit of mayhem.

It could be bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy that the minority feel they have to live up to their reputation Sad

Blueskywhy · 10/07/2018 16:37

It will be mayhem ... we’re expected to win by bookies and most pundits. Book a taxi ASAP!

3luckystars · 10/07/2018 16:42

All the people at the event will have to walk to a taxi too.
Ring the taxi company and pre book it or just don’t go if you think you will be too anxious.
It sounds like you are imagining a war zone with bullets ricocheting off her trumpet. Do you really think it will be that bad?
(I’m not there so don’t know how bad it is)

Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:45

Tried to get taxi. Not going anywhere near and can't guarantee the time. Not waiting for an hour on street corner. Rang bus company but they are not putting on any extra buses although there may be diversions.

Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:46

Its Broad Street Birmingham (outing!) it will be horrendous

OP posts:
Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:49

I will get the train. I'm inside and they are at 20 minute intervals

ReanimatedSGB · 10/07/2018 16:51

Are there roadworks and other things going on, too? Or are they doing that utterly tiresome thing of broadcasting the match on a big screen in the street?

Usernumbers1234 · 10/07/2018 16:52

Broad Street was mental at the weekend. But if it doesn’t go to Extra time it will have calmed down a bit by 10

ReanimatedSGB · 10/07/2018 16:53

Ah, sounds like a plan. With any luck, a lot of the people who are interested in the men's football contest will be watching it at home anyway (some people who are interested in it are interested in the match but would rather not see it in a pub full of shouting bellends, for instance.)

Usernumbers1234 · 10/07/2018 16:54

Lol, of course reanimateds here, wouldn’t be a football thread without her telling us all how preposterous 5 days of the wider British public enjoying football every 4 years is.

It’s Broad Street Reanimated, there’s about 100 pubs that will be showing the game.

Frogletmamma · 10/07/2018 16:54

The street got closed for the last match because there were too many drunk people cavorting in the middle of it. It is BAR BAR BAR BAR TAKEAWAY BAR,

MachineBee · 10/07/2018 16:55

Train will be best. Just keep each other close, be sure of a variety of routes. Avoid going via front of Council House as there’s likely to be a big screen up there with a lot of fans.

There will be a large police presence in the centre so you should be fine.

MachineBee · 10/07/2018 16:56

Or you could consider going on the Metro.
