To think if you allow kids on social media, at least monitor it

There are so many primary kids at DCs school on social media like Instagram, Snapchat and Whats App. Judging by the bullying, the arguments and the fallout at school it seems that they are not being supervised and have free reign online.

Aside from the fact they are too young to be on social media, AIBU to think that parents have a duty of care to at the very least monitor what their kids are doing online?

They might be the same parents who don't monitor their children's behaviour offline .

Some parents just don't parent very well.

@Phosphorus This is true but not always the case. I have known the most sensible of parents allow their 10 year olds have social media ‘because everyone else is’ and not monitor it ‘because they need privacy’. Hmm The intense need people have for their DC not to be left out in any way seems to override any common sense.

YANBU.

All the parents I know are what you would call sensible parents. I'm not sure any of them monitor what their children do online, and some do have SM. I've installed an app on DS's phone so I cant monitor it and I can ban certain categories of websites, and SM is one of them. No need for it at their age.

Why do primary age children even have phones?!
