Hi all,

So I put a holiday form into school to ask for 4 days authorised absence for my brother and sister I'm their SG, As every year since our mum died (2012) my uncle has taking them on a caravan holiday.
October 2017 I requested the same 4 days AA as my uncles shifts unfortunately did not land on term turn as previous years, Head granted these days as I explained this is annually since mums passing and could provide shift sheet for evidence if requested.
So again I had to put the same request in as uncles shifts are scheduled yearly, so unfortunately his time off does not land on term time again!
I stated exact same reason as in October but the Head has NOT deemed it as exceptional circumstances?
Children have good attendance etc and to me it seems odd to grant October 2017 but not now?!
One parent took a 2 week holiday with her 2 DC and when she put holiday form in HT rang her and granted her 4 days as school had of days on Fri n Mon and said the other 4 days would be UA , which means she will not be fined!

AIBU to question the heads decision?
WWYD?
Why would she go out of her way for OP but not grant my brother and sister?

AIBU to think this is unfair?

YABU. 'Exceptional circumstances' cannot really be a predictable annual event.

Nicknacky · 10/07/2018 09:49

Are you being fined? And I wouldn’t say it’s expceptional circumstances at all, it’s an annual holiday.

And I say that as someone who takes her kids out of school due to dictated annual leave dates although we are in Scotland.

It is not ‘exceptional circumstances’ so they are correct not to allow it. That being said just accept the fact you ‘may’ get a find and go anyway.

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2018 09:57

I don’t see how exceptional circumstances can happen at a planned time, it’s for emergencies or similar
Are you sure you will be fined? We have had UA before but not been referred to the LEA for a fine

Typhers · 10/07/2018 09:58

Fine ^ 😡

Wellthisunexpected · 10/07/2018 10:05

I'd just take them out of school and risk the fine, then challenge it when I got it, but I don't know your financial circumstances.

I agree it isn't exceptional circumstances though.
