To think that marijuana shouldn't be legalised?

Just that really, I'm a 19 year old & honestly given all the experiences people I know have had using it, it seems like a horribly unhealthy and dangerous thing to legalise?

I've never smoked it or taken any drugs myself so I guess I don't know everything, but it has been proven to make people depressed, lazy & unproductive! (Insert mental image of 30yr old living in parents basementGrin)

What's everyone's opinions? If you believe it should be, can you explain why? And vice versa :) thanks!

The cbd oil which is the medical part of the plant should definitely be legalised.
It doesnt even get you high and is no different to any other plant based medicine.
But i am strongly against legalising across the board because i know a few people whose mental health has bee destroyed by it !

Hardly any of it comes through our borders now it’s all grown here. Technology has advanced (and more importantly become cheaper) so you can grow here without any of the hassle of smuggling it.

SoddingUnicorns · 09/07/2018 15:39

The cbd oil which is the medical part of the plant should definitely be legalised

It is legal, you can buy it in Holland and Barrett!

It’s the other oil that isn’t legal, which does contain trace amounts of THC.

KidLorneRoll · 09/07/2018 15:40

I assume that all the people opposed to it being legal also never drink and would like to see alcohol illegal too.

NewspaperTaxis · 09/07/2018 15:43

Traditionally, you are on a hiding to nothing with the whole cannabis issue - I understand decades ago hemp was touted as a danger by someone in the US who had an interest in using paper to manufacture newspapers, not hemp, so cooked up a story saying it drove folk to aggressive behaviour - just the thing to get the State cracking down on it, and it worked.

That said, the skunk we see today really is bad news.

No actual talk of legalising this lifestyle choice though, only the medicinal cannablis oil.

Usernumbers1234 · 09/07/2018 15:43

KittyPerry, how have you stopped tobacco smoke? You’ve just pushed it out of pubs and homes and into the streets.

FuckingTwattery · 09/07/2018 15:44

That's the thing adoggymama people seem to be getting confused between the two and lump it all in together.

Sisgal · 09/07/2018 15:46

Agree that alcohol is MUCH worse than weed

KittyPerry77 · 09/07/2018 16:08

Isn't it great that tobacco has been pushed out of pubs and homes Usernumbers1234???

People can pretty easily avoid strangers who are violent and/or obnoxious from consuming too much alcohol by not being out late at night. It is more difficult to avoid strangers smoking weed.

KidLorneRoll I wouldn't actively like to see alcohol banned but I certainly couldn't care less if it was.

Metoodear · 09/07/2018 16:15

Legalisation would cause less death's and less crime. It has had promising results thus far as a medication, especially in children. Although I wouldn't touch the stuff it's clearly detrimental to keep it illegal.
hogwash drinking is legal the amount the police spend of a weekend up and down our towns and city’s due to drinking related crime the amount of domestic abuse linked to drinking and as somone who fostered the amount of children who had to be removed due to their parents drinking is staggering also the amount it costs the NHS you cannot move for drunks in any a&e at the weekend

All legal

It would not keep people safe it would make the current weed smokers even more bold

Usernumbers1234 · 09/07/2018 16:19

KittyPerry

I didn’t say it wasn’t great.

You said:

“Totally agree. We've just freed ourselves from passive tobacco smoke so why enable others to stink us up with their weed?”

If you have “freed” yourself from tobacco smoke, then as long as they don’t legalise smoking it in pubs and workplaces, which they clearly won’t do, then why does it cause you an issue?

If you are free from tobacco smoke then surely you’ll be free from weed smoke under the same regulations?

Usernumbers1234 · 09/07/2018 16:24

Kittyperry what do you mean about avoiding strangers smoking weed vs drunk people. Again that makes no sense.

what threat does a stoned person wandering down the road for a packet of rizlas a bottle of mars milk and a bag of rainbow drops present to you that is more dangerous than a bloke with ten pints of Stella in him?

fruitbrewhaha · 09/07/2018 16:25

There are a lot of 30 year olds still living with their parents. It's got nothing to do with weed addiction.

There are plenty of people who recreationally smoke weed and hold down busy jobs and family life etc. It's an escape like having a glass or two of wine at the end of a long day.

KittyPerry77 · 09/07/2018 16:28

Walking through the local park I get weed blown in my face. People do not chose to drink to excess in the park. If next door neighbours drink alcohol I would barely know. If they smoke weed, the smoke will come in through the windows.

We are free from tobacco smoke because there is a stigma attached to it now. The average Joe has tried hard to give up. The people smoking weed are not the type to feel like people are judging them and will happy smoke away in the park etc.

Vitalogy · 09/07/2018 16:29

I think it should be legalised along with all the other drugs. As long as it's not hurting others we should be able to do what ever we like with our own bodies. The state should have no involvement in it.

AcrossthePond55 · 09/07/2018 16:49

Weed is legal where I live. Taxed heavily and regulated even more strictly than alcohol as there is NO public consumption allowed, only in private residences. It's working very well.

The amount of THC is on the packages so you can judge for yourself how strong you want it, just as you'd decide whether you wanted to buy beer or a bottle of liquor.

TheQueef · 09/07/2018 16:56

I smoke it Shock for medical reasons.

I've completely quit opiates and my pain is managed so I'm not going to stop.

Like most of the users I know (mostly medical users or non smokers, not the typical stereo type) I'm as discreet and considerate as possible but the hysteria is just silly sometimes.

Usernumbers1234 · 09/07/2018 16:59

“Blown in your face” - you mean people are literally taking a drag and exhaling it directly into your face?

GlitteryTwat · 09/07/2018 17:05

I smoke it for medical reasons.

You want cancer?

I know a lot of people with MS that use it but they eat it. Some of the US based people have a spray that they spray under their tongue.

SoddingUnicorns · 09/07/2018 17:08

You want cancer?

You can vape it, no smoking necessary.

TheQueef · 09/07/2018 17:08

Sorry Glittery that ship has sailed.

My choice is limited by availability. Maybe if I could buy it at a dispensary and choose from a menu.....

As it is the only real way to identify the weed available is just avoid skunk.

Usernumbers1234 · 09/07/2018 17:08

Kitty, I also imagine there are a lot of mumsnet users who are well aware of when their neighbours have been drinking alcohol and when they haven’t.

I completely agree that we smokers should be discrete and it shouldn’t impact our neighbours lives. This time of year tends to be the trickiest because it’s warm, there’s little breeze, people are outside and the windows are open. But I’d rather have a pot smoker than a heavy drinker live next door to me 100 times out of 100.

I just think this perception that legalisation will see us strolling through the streets with a joint in our hands is off the mark. It’s been legal in Holland for years and you don’t see clouds of weed smoke in the streets, you probably smell it less than here.

Those toerags in the park will always be there, they are the ones leaving tennants cans and syringes everywhere as well. I’d sure as hell prefer to bump into a bloke having a joint on his walk home than the alcoholic who just finished his 8th can on the bench.

Clinicalwaste · 09/07/2018 17:09

Derivatives for medical purposes should absolutely be used fully and be legal. Cannibis is a very useful plant and has been used since the dawn of time. The street stuff absolutely no way. It causes psychotic episodes and is dangerous mind altering stuff. Some derivatives of cannibis are very powerful and harmful.

TheQueef · 09/07/2018 17:10

Could you give me the number of your supplier Unicorns ? I can't find any vape oils for sale?

Fatclub · 09/07/2018 17:11

Yanbu. The smell stinks.
My old neighbours smoked it and my whole flat and my sons clothes constantly stank of it.

Medical stuff yes.
