Eurocamp holiday?

Sorry i know iabu to post here as it's not aibu but want some quick replies!

We are looking at Eurocamp next spring...
it seems expensive.

We are also going as 2 families in 1 accommodation so 4 adults with 5 children under 5 so will need 2 cots and their accommodation seems like it would seriously struggle to fit 9 people including the 2 cots in...

The 3 'older' kids can share a room but would need two other double / twin rooms with space for a cot in both.

Any other recommendations would be hugely appreciated!

Been to a lot of euro camp places and we've always loved them. Can't fault them and never found them to be expensive at all. Have 2 units for 2 families :)

We booked with canvas holidays last year - we had 9 nights in a brand new mobile phone near Lake Garda in Italy for £900. We loved it and would book with them again.

We did eurocamp once. Stayed in the south of France and I insisted we had static caravan accommodation purely so they kids could use the toilet independently without me having to trail after them to the toilet block! DH grumbled, because he grew up with canvas holidays staying in their tents. Different back then though. He said when he went with his family, the campsites were spacious with plenty of room between families holidaying. It may just have been the site we went to, but the caravans were closely packed together and the poor people camping were almost on top of each other. The pool was overcrowded and although there was a choice of pools that was the only one that had a shallow slope so toddlers could paddle around at the entrance to it. The lifeguards were disinterested and barely bothered to watch in case anyone got into difficulty. By 11am the water was a milky soup. The camp had private access to the beach though and that was clean, but no shelter from the sun. There were, apparently, childrens clubs but the only one we saw operating seemed to be for French teens. We asked the eurocamp rep who didn’t have a clue about what might be going on in terms of entertainment. I would go back, but with low expectations.

I’ve euricamped a few times but next time I do it (which will be the first time we pay school holiday prices) we’ll book direct with the campsite. We’ve stayed at a few which have been the French brand ‘Castels’ campsites (my favourite is at Carnac) and booking direct works out much cheaper.

I think you’ve heard it enough times now but don’t believe their capacity ;)

We're in a Eurocamps just now called Les Peneyrals in the Dordogne. We'll it's not their campsite they just have caravans here. We are having the best time ever, 3 bedroom caravan for me and DH and our 2 boys aged 16 and 10. I certainly wouldn't squeeze any more in though! It's got air conditioning, pools are good and best if all booked it through the Sun holidays so it only cost £187 for week, got codes online. We were in a Brittany one last week which was also only £187.

Look at yelloh villages sites too. The one called "le littoral" has a lovely indoor splash park for kids of that age.
Eurocamp have vans on the site but you can book direct with yelloh villages who own it.

We went to capfun in Normandy last year and just booked to go to the one 1 hour from Calais this August. The one in Belgium looks amazing too. I can't wait. They have fantastic slides and parks with great big climbing frames/tree houses. Some sites have themed lodges. It is about half the price of Eurocamp with a whole lot more fun, although the kids clubs are all in French. Luckily my DD didn't mind the language barrier and joined in anyway :)

Branleuse · 11/07/2018 21:59

looks like theres some good reductions for eurocamp for last bit of august

ohnothanks · 11/07/2018 22:05

Book with the sites direct. You will get far far better value especially in UK school holidays. Usually much more modern accommodation too. 2 units is the way to go. All those people in one small (even extended) unit.... ugh!

Branleuse · 12/07/2018 00:15

Thats a bit of a myth actually. It is sometimes cheaper to book directly but just as often can be more expensive.
If im booking a holiday I always check out the main website, and also others such as canvas as well as eurocamp.
Some years ive chosen eurocamp because of the kids clubs which can be very good value if your kids will use them. The eurocamp and canvas ones are all in english.

PositiveVibez · 12/07/2018 00:34

Look at the campsites you like then find them online direct

This. We save £££ booking directly

Smoothsailing9 · 12/07/2018 04:28

I’d second Canvas holidays at Berny Rivière in France (Le Croix de Vieux Pont). We got two families comfortably into one of their log cabins - four adults and five kids. It had two bathrooms and plenty of seating and outside space.

Drummingisfun · 12/07/2018 13:52

The thing about booking direct is that equipment in the vans can vary a lot.
Many French owned vans don't have an oven, whereas Eurocamp always do.
Some Eurocamp vans now have air con, this probably won't be the case with site owned.
Booking through Eurocamp also gives a substantial discount on Brittany ferries, and sometimes this saving can make up the price difference between Eurocamp and direct booking.
