Do all neighbours turn into inconsiderate twats during hot weather?

Why do they send their children out to play in the street right in front of my house every evening whilst I am trying to get my toddler to sleep? They have perfectly good gardens!

Why do they think chucking their dogs in the garden to bark at 4:20am is acceptable? Maybe if the dogs were walked the poor things wouldn't be so frustrated that all they do is bark!

Why do they think it's OK to be having parties until gone midnight in their gardens, rev engines, blare music, use power fucking tools to change alloys at 8pm right below my toddlers bedroom window!

I am so frustrated with the total lack of consideration!

What are people's thoughts on people still using sprinklers on their grass in this weather given the water shortage? Just interested...

I’m not built for urban living. I will one day love away from other people and their noise.

My neighbours have BBQs most weekends starting mid afternoon. It annoys me because I actually want to dry my washing without it smelling of smoke, but it's reasonable.
Other neighbours have the children playing in thr street til about 7. Perfectly reasonable. Kids playing is entirely normal noise if you choose to live in a family friendly area of town.
Another neighbour let their child out to blow a tin whistle/ recorder from 8am on a weekend morning for over an hour. Now that was unreasonable. STFU.

EscapistTendencies · 09/07/2018 17:14

No my neighbours are inconsiderate twats all year round. They're particularly fond of door slamming between the hours of 11pm and 6am and late night screaming fights, cunts.Oh and the bloke likes to hack up his lungs every morning with the bathroom window open making me gag. I'll happily swap for kids playing in the street in the evening which is perfectly reasonable normal noise and it'll be your toddler in a few years OP, although I do remember how annoying it is when you have a little one. I just want peace between 11pm and 7am before I commit murder.

I live in a peaceful area but my next door neighbour who is otherwise a nice guy, cannot go into his (large) garden and just be in it - no, he ALWAYS starts up one of his extensive collection of very loud power tools. He has three mowers (one a ride on type which is like several buses revving up together, with accompanying petrol fumes), a grass strimmer that sounds like a 747 taking off, a hedge trimmer, chainsaw and power washer, to mention just a few. When he uses them is random as he is always at home. He seems to go out, rev up a machine and then look for something to cut down. His garden is quite bare and has very few flowers or shrubs in it, so its not that he is obsessive about keeping it perfect. He has no concept that the garden is somewhere to enjoy being relaxed and peaceful in. I only have to sit outside for a few minutes and the noise is likely to start. In this weather its become a bit of a nightmare.

what abut people still using sprinklers people?? Am I right to feel deeply resentful of neighbour putting theirs on for several hours while we, due to water shortage have stopped and our lawn has basically died Sad

My newish neighbours appear to have moved out into their small back yard for the whole summer. They also seem to have invited everyone they've ever met round to join them. Always a min of 4/5 people sat 'talking' at full volume and the radio blasting until 10pm. Not helpful when my son has to be in bed by 7.30 and can't sleep due to the noise. That's with the windows shut, which of course then makes it about 300 degrees in his room too. Windows open, and it sounds like he's trying to sleep in a pub beer garden.

And when the football has been on, I've had singing and screaming 'Come On Engerland!!!' until 1am+ several nights. They were still out there yelling at 3am on Saturday night and even my 12 year old gave up and got into bed with me to try and get some kip! First time he's done that since he was about 4 so he must have been desperate.

All complaints have been met with apologies 'But it's only once every four years, come on...' They quiet down for half an hour then the volume slowly rises again. I don't wish to fall out with them big time but I'm getting so pissed off. I try so hard to keep my kids from disturbing everyone! Not any more...

Roomba · 09/07/2018 17:30

Oh yeah, new neighbours seem to have eaten BBQ 3x daily for the last two months too, so all my washing stinks.

chickedychicked · 09/07/2018 17:37

my neighbours dog barks in the garden at precisely 12am and 6 am in the morning both times waking me up. Their 20 something yr old son bangs the back door at all hours to go out to smoke weed in the garden.
But then I'm quite loud and my DC play football in the back, hours at a time so I can't really say anything Blush

NoNotheresnolyrics · 09/07/2018 17:37

People with barking dogs are complete cunts

Metoodear · 09/07/2018 18:08

My polish neighbors paying gabba gabba music TIL the small hours of May be light outside but it’s still 11 am and people have to work

my2bundles · 09/07/2018 18:23

I think the posts about children playing out are quite sad. I remember many happy summers playing for hours with the neighbourhood kids. While my son stays in the garden why shouldn't he enjoy long days and evenings, playing in his pool and on his trampoline? He is fun, oh the horror 😕 Far better than being indoors.

NoNotheresnolyrics · 09/07/2018 18:25

my2bundles I agree the sound of children playing doesn’t bother me! Unless they are kicking a football against a wall 😂

PickAChew · 09/07/2018 18:37

I have no problem with children out playing but constant shrieking is wearing, particularly when the playing seems to consist of one child constantly ordering the others around and screeching at them when they don't comply perfectly, for hours on end, totally unchecked.

That was a hot stuffy summer with the windows kept shut. I wasn't sad when said child and her "just being a boy" mini thug of a brother moved away.

bigbumval · 09/07/2018 18:43

A lot of them do.
I'm sick of hearing music, car doors slam and people talking late in the night.
I'm sick of the heatwave too.

Xenia · 09/07/2018 18:47

It is mostly quiet where I am but some people had a very loud late party last weekend and 2 weeks before that anotehr house did. The trouble is if these people say it's just once a yea r- fine but if everyone has one just once a year that ends up being all the time.

Some people don't seem to realise a lot of us need to be in bed at 10om and up at 6 for work to pay for their lifestyle.

ShapelyBingoWing · 09/07/2018 18:55

I think the posts about children playing out are quite sad.

I think the point most people are making is that playing and screaming aren't the same thing. 1 of my neighbour's 4 children literally punctuates what she's saying with screaming as they all start fighting and she gets angry and I suppose she thinks if she screams, someone will listen. Right next to my windows. A short distance from my front door.

Neededastealthname · 09/07/2018 19:33

There is a difference between children playing in their gardens and children totally unsupervised screaming directly outside your front door at 8pm and that difference is the parents, they would rather chuck them out on the street to play than have to deal with them. I am talking about children between 6-8, not older children.

Sprinklers on for hours during this heatwave is selfish, I have however used more water than I would of liked in a bid to keep my toddler cool so I can't judge.

Yep. Our neighbours sit outside our utility room window drinking most days. We are trying to sell our house. Roll on winter.
