To feel sad women are not part of the greatest show on Earth

The World Cup is the greatest show on Earth, nations across the globe brought to a standstill, billions watching, lifelong heroes made with a kick of a ball.

Yet this is the MEN'S world cup. Women can't play, are not part of the coaching staff or managers. Instead our roles are reduced to WAGs or totty sitting in stands or occasionally inspiring mum watching son.

Women's football doesn't get the coverage, money or exposure, so will never pull in the audiences that the men's game does.

So there is no answer but I am feeling sad that a young girl can't dream of lifting the World Cup and becoming an idol to billions.

Yes we have a World Cup be concerned that men are literally taking over the sports we have

The fight is to preserve what we have no infletrate the men’s sport

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2018 19:07

www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/index.html

The women’s World Cup is next year.

Metoodear · 08/07/2018 19:07

Oh and the women’s football doesn’t get the coverage because a lot of women don’t watch it

RobinHumphries · 08/07/2018 19:08

I’m grateful they don’t have cheerleaders

RunMummyRun68 · 08/07/2018 19:10

Oh behave!

Plenty of other things for women to achieve

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2018 19:11

Plenty of other things for women to achieve

They can achieve this. The women’s football World Cup is a thing.

Barmaid101 · 08/07/2018 19:14

But the World Cup isn’t the greatest show on earth!

GunpowderGelatine · 08/07/2018 19:14

The best thing to do is to support the women's World Cup. The England team are fantastic! Equal success is not gonna happen overnight, we have to make it happen

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/07/2018 19:14

Do you watch women’s football OP?

Futtonislovely · 08/07/2018 19:15

Gunpowder

I agree wholek

Dd always insists on calling it the Men's World Cup 😁. She's looking forward to 2019!

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/07/2018 19:15

The English team are great and have achieved more than the men over the years. The games are televised but more need to tune in!

NailsNeedDoing · 08/07/2018 19:16

Is it really the greatest show on Earth? I'm enjoying the World Cup, but I think the Olympics and Paralympics would deserve that title more.

Futtonislovely · 08/07/2018 19:16

*Wholeheartedly I meant!

Floralnomad · 08/07/2018 19:20

Firstly it’s not the ‘greatest show on earth ‘ , and as others have said women have their own World Cup . FWIW the BBC have had women pundits and for at least one match a woman commentator so at least they are making a small effort

Futtonislovely · 08/07/2018 19:20

Purple,
Yes I do and a good friend plays for Birmingham City ladies.

Seeing how the country is backing the men's England team is great. But wish the country could get to the same level of passion about the women's game.

Buster72 · 08/07/2018 19:21

The Olympics is the greatest show with larger participation; audiences and international significance.

Woman's sport does not get the audiences because it is by its nature slower.

Having said that the England woman's team is brilliant.

ForalltheSaints · 08/07/2018 19:22

I own shares in a men's football club. Even so, I would never describe the World Cup as the greatest show on earth. Probably for me it is the Olympics and Paralympics.

The women's football World Cup should get more coverage I think.

Heratnumber7 · 08/07/2018 21:00

Women's rugby internationals are often played before the men's, on the same day. They still don't get many watching though.

I'm more het up about having (eg) "the England football team" and "the England women's football team". It's the same in all sports.

By adding the adjective only to the women's team makes them seem less important some how. As if the real England team is the men's, and then there's this other team of women....

GorgonLondon · 08/07/2018 21:02

Yabu.

As others said, males destroying women's sports is a real concern.

This is what it is. I much prefer the Olympics anyway.

Mousefunky · 08/07/2018 21:10

Not the greatest show on Earth, that’s obviously incredibly subjective.

Aside from that, I completely see your point. It’s male football so not sure you’d ever have a case for women joining in playing as women football does exist (and England’s team are way better than the male equivalent) but coaches, managers and even pundits should surely include women. Gabby Roslin is the only female I’ve seen throughout the whole tournament aside from ‘WAGs’.

Futtonislovely · 08/07/2018 21:13

Great point Herat.

I'm loving the World Cup, but I still wouldn't call it 'The Greatest Show on Earth' what an odd description.
I will be watching the next World Cup with just as much interest.

badtime · 08/07/2018 21:24

Herat, not quite all sports - there is netball and men's netball, and roller derby and men's roller derby, and probably some more.

Loopytiles · 08/07/2018 21:28

I thought this was about the circus!
