DH wants to install a urinal!

prosecoprincess · 08/07/2018 15:06

I've just found out from the builder that DH has asked him to install a urinal in the new bathroom!? We're having an extension onto the garage and it's meant to be a games room for the 2 boys but DH has since been making noises about putting a fully functioning bar in there with fruit machines and now a fucking urinal! I'm fucking fuming!!

Heat getting to someone today?

goodiegoodieyumyum · 08/07/2018 16:03

We have one on our lovely 1970's German bathroom, we also have a bidet, it means my husband and son don't wee all over the toilet and it is very easy yo clean and doesn't smell if you keep it clean.

Ethylred · 08/07/2018 16:06

Do you also expect to approve his choice of barmaid?

Vitalogy · 08/07/2018 16:13

I can't see the issue if it's his man cave. I bet you've got your bedroom decorated exactly how you want it, no.

I remember an interview with Sharon Osborne, she had one installed for Ozzie. She was sick of the pee everywhere with the regular lav.

ClosdesMouches · 08/07/2018 16:15

Harsh, speakout.
Feeling generous here so 2/10

Pringlemunchers · 08/07/2018 16:15

Have you asked him,WHY he wants one???

longwayoff · 08/07/2018 16:15

Ha haha. My first thought was are you going to live in a pub but it seems you are. You know what they smell like. You know who'll be expected to clean them. You know how they'll smell if he cleans them. In fact, you must be bloody joking. He'd be having a quick word with the builder if he was wise. And he can do that while you're at the solicitors.

speakout · 08/07/2018 16:17

OP are you Katie Price?

PlatypusPie · 08/07/2018 16:22

I have never heard of one being installed in a domestic setting - is this a thing that has passed me by ? No, just no.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 08/07/2018 16:23

Classy, I’d suggest he get feature wall, maybe a hooters sign
Get you some nipple tassels to wear serving the beer to dp and his crew

Bananalanacake · 08/07/2018 16:26

My pil have one in their bathroom. In Germany.

LynetteScavo · 08/07/2018 16:30

When I was an au pair in Germany, the family had a urinal in their downstairs loo. The mum told me she was fed up of her DHs friends pissing on the seat, and when you're building your own house, why not have what you want? They only has DDs.

I have 2 DSs and over the years we've gone through many toilet seats. The cheaper ones seem to last the longest.

Anyway, it's not actually such a bad idea...

MoonsAndJunes · 08/07/2018 16:40

Does the poor love have trouble with his aim? Maybe a normal toilet is too much of a challenge? Suggest he tries this (see photo) first. He could practice. If he still can't manage, I'd probably let him go ahead.

DH wants to install a urinal!
squeelof1 · 08/07/2018 16:42

Do you stop him from going to the pub?
Seems like a "Can't go to the pub so bring the pub to you" situation.

flopsyrabbit1 · 08/07/2018 16:44

oh god no way, they smell and i dont think you can ever get the really clean

it would be a talking point though

glad i have no partner

KarinVogel · 08/07/2018 16:44

I think if there are 3 males at least using the facilites and there is also another normal toilet in the space then I cant see the problem. The toilet area will have to be cleaned anyway and its just a bowl with a flush and a drain hung on the wall - why should it smell more than a toilet?

Is it the cost you are objecting to maybe? In which case fair enough - they are expensive things to install and run as they can use more water than a toilet. Maybe a talk with DH and the builder together?

PigletJohn · 08/07/2018 16:52

I'm pretty sure they are more hygienic than a pan, and suffer less from wayward spraying.

Pub toilets might smell, that may be to do with 500 boozed-up punters using them, rather than the urinal design.

Some sort of wash-down or tiled surface on the surrounding floor and wall would make it even more hygienic. There are automated flushing mechanisms that detect the presence of a user.

No doubt the users will be responsible for cleaning.

Will there be a ladies' powder room as well?

harshbuttrue1980 · 08/07/2018 16:55

I don't understand the issue - why would it smell more than a regular toilet? If there was something that made it easier for women to pee, any man would be seen as abusive on here for not letting her get one.

SwedishEdith · 08/07/2018 16:55

We viewed a house with one. The vendor got a bit touchy when I commented on it. They're so ugly.

Flyingpompom · 08/07/2018 16:59

I don't understand why it would smell. Public toilets smell because, well, people can be disgusting!
Not because of the urinals!

n0ne · 08/07/2018 17:04

My very wealthy PILs have a urinal as well as a toilet in their downstairs loo. It has a lid just like a toilet lid and in no way smells bad, or looks like it'll be hard to clean. I was weirded out at first but now think, why not?

dudsville · 08/07/2018 17:08

If I had been born a male I'd want one.

JellySlice · 08/07/2018 17:08

Domestic urinals aren't necessarily the same as what you find in public loos. And it's the numbers of messy, uncaring men making a mess that causes the smell.

I dont think I'd mind a urinal with a lid, as long as it was not instead of a proper toilet, nor very close to any of the other sanitary ware.

FatBarry · 08/07/2018 17:09

The difference between a urinal and a toilet is that a woman can’t use the urinal.

Not hard to understand, this would piss the tits off me.

It’s not your room at all is it OP, in fact you are being told you can’t use it, except perhaps to clean.

On another note no way would I buy a house with a urinal.

yorkshireyummymummy · 08/07/2018 17:14

My dad has one in the house he built.
It has a lid and it DOES NOT SMELL.

This is because it’s not a public convenience.
They are easy to keep clean, don’t smell and are much easier for me to use so no leaving up of regular loo seat, urine on the seat/floor etc.
Why wouldn’t you want one?
