To ask that health issues be kept in the health section?

I'm possibly being unfair because I'm going through health issues myself at the moment and so am finding issues triggering. I deliberately don't go on the the health section here because I don't want to read about things, but health issues seem to constantly crop up in AIBU and Chat, and I'm really starting to get upset every time I see something now.

I know I can 'hide' the thread and I am doing this, but in order to do this I still have to click into it and always mange to see at least part of it anyway.

I'd understand if there wasn't actually a specific health section and people had to post elsewhere, but when there is, is it too much to ask that health issues could just be kept there when that's what it's for in the first place?

I have health anxiety also and I sort of agree with you. I suspect you're going to get told to do one though.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/07/2018 12:45

The health section doesn't get as much traffic so people post in AIBU and chat to try and gather responses quickly. I don't think you can police where people post asking for help. I am sorry you are struggling with this though.

onalongsabbatical · 08/07/2018 12:47

Honestly I sympathise, but unless you think it would be reasonable to contact MNHQ and tell them to change AIBU into AIBU-no-health-topics, you’re being U, there are literally thousands of regular users and you’re in charge of your health and what triggers you, not us. Sorry.

SalveGrumio · 08/07/2018 12:48

You don't have to click on it to hide. I hide on. Mobile site by clicking on the 3 dots at the end of the title.

KurriKurri · 08/07/2018 12:48

The problem is that health doesn't get as much traffic (especially now that general health has been shoved down the list and is not obvious any more - the visible health topics are children;s health and women's health). Some times people want a quick answer, in health you migth have to wait a day before you get any response.
I don't think you can ask people not to post health problems in chat or AIBU - sometimes they are cross over queries anyway - because they are to do with GP or hospital experiences.
Lots of issues are triggering for lots of people. I know where you are coming from - I've had an illness and it seemed like every post, every newspaper or magazine front cover was shouting the name of my illness - it's horrible but you can't censor all sources of info and media.

You can encourage people to post in health rather than busier sections, but you can't tell them they have to - it is unenforceable and sadly if you have a problem with certain topics you have to be the one to find a way of avoiding, rather than asking everyone else to change.

but Flowers for your situation, I do understand it is hard.

ilovesooty · 08/07/2018 12:50

I can see your point. There are a good few threads that when I see the titles I find myself wishing that people would post them in the specific section...

lljkk · 08/07/2018 12:50

It won't happen, OP.
There are loads & loads of upsetting threads that end up in chat & all sorts of other topics. They can't all be segregated.
Need to get very fast with the 'Hide' option (doesn't help with trending threads, sympathies there).

HildaZelda · 09/07/2018 11:44

I've had to hide a number of threads again since yesterday. I'm looking at just coming off here altogether now because there seems to be no way of avoiding all the health stuff.
I'd understand if there wasn't a dedicated health section but when there is that just makes it a lot more difficult.

I understand why you would feel like that however sometimes people have asked about urgent things on AIBU for traffic and have been advised to go to A&E and that might potentially save a child's life so I think it's best just to avoid looking at them.

SalveGrumio · 09/07/2018 18:49

You know you don't have to open them to hide them don't you?

StepBackNow · 09/07/2018 18:50

You have a very selfish point of view. Just leave MN then you won't be triggered.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/07/2018 18:52

I;ve posted on Health and had absolutely no replies . One I bumped and got one reply but , it is a quiet topic.

InspectorIkmen · 09/07/2018 18:54

StepBackNow - feel better now do you? All big and clever?

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 09/07/2018 18:55

I sympathise with your health issues and hope all resolves itself well, but YABU.

There's other stuff I struggle with and wish I hadn't seen the titles, but it would be unreasonable of me to expect everyone to revolve their posting around my preferences and sensibilities. Some people use chat so it'll disappear or, as has been said before, AIBU to draw numerous quick responses. That's OK.

Whereisthecoffee · 09/07/2018 18:55

I’m sorry it’s difficult for you but the trigger culture in general is ridiculous. I understand extreme topics but health isn’t an extreme topic and is part of every day life. YABU

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 09/07/2018 18:56

Sorry but there is NO traffic there

If it’s so bad that mere titles trigger you .... that’s a problem OP Sad

HamishTheTalkingCactus · 09/07/2018 18:57

what about taking aibu and chat out of your active conversations selection? as that way you should avoid upsetting titles, and can enjoy other parts of the site. Sorry you are having such a stressful time OP Flowers

What a weird thing to say. Do you have issues?
