Mmr top up - born in 1980

So off to Mexico in three weeks.
Had travel vaccines. Always vaccinated as a child too.
The nurse telephoned once we got home to say that as I was born in 1980 although I had single vaccines, they how recommend mmr booster if you travel.
Now I’m 100% vaccines but I can’t help but think I don’t want it as I’ll potentially have side effects when away. I teach and are surrounded by kids every day, I’ve never been offered it before. It’s only due to travel.
We’ve worked so hard for this holiday! AIBU?

It recommends that your usual UK vaccines are up to date. Do you mean that you only had the first one of those vaccinations? And not the boosters?

I'm born a similar time to you and only had the first ones as had a very bad reaction. However the vaccinations have changed a lot in almost 40 years and have had no reactions as an adult.

Wondering why you think you'll be sick for 3 weeks?

When I was pregnant ideas told I needed the MMR after the baby was born as my immunity had worn off. But when I went to book it they told me not to bother as it was Rubella I needed and that had basically been eradicated in the UK. I think if I was traveling somewhere that I could be exposed to it, I'd have the jab. I'd rather be slightly unwell from the side effects then actually catching the diseases.

The side effects would appear just as we travel. I had the single vaccines as in 1980 there wasn’t the mmr - that came in 1988
