What to buy nursery staff? Help!

Princesstwilightsparkle · 07/07/2018 22:14

Posting mainly for traffic, but DD2 is finishing nursery for good this month, she and DD1 both went there & feel massively grateful to them. There are quite a few staff there though, so it's tricky to think what to buy. Any ideas? Was wondering whether to have an order delivered of something yummy, or something they could keep there for all staff like a coffee pot? Help greatly appreciated!

£5 Costa voucher for everyone?

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 07/07/2018 22:18

I would probably just get them a gift voucher for somewhere like John Lewis ( or whatever you have locally) that sells everything so they can choose.

Lollyice · 07/07/2018 22:20

Am in the same boat. Ds leaves on Friday, he has 4 ladies in his room, 10 staff in total and a class of friends.
Was thinking of cupcakes for the kids, Lush bathbombs for the staff in his room and either cheaper bath melts for the other 6 staff or some nice pens, (they are always looking for a pen at signing in/out)
Will get ds to draw some pictures too.
May steal some ideas from here though Wink

When mine left for good I did a hamper for the Staff room - a selection of posh teas, coffees, hot chocolate etc. Some fancy biscuits of different types etc. Went down really well and they said it lasted them ages.

Princesstwilightsparkle · 07/07/2018 22:21

My only downside about a single voucher is will it seem tight? but getting £5 each would work out at about £100 Blush

Hamper is a good idea. I usually go for bottle of prosecco for key worker and biscuits/chocs for everyone else to share?

switswoo81 · 07/07/2018 22:25

When staff used to swap around in dds Creche at the end of the year I used to get a big box of fancy cupcakes. At Christmas I would give a voucher for the place they held their Christmas party so they could get a drink each.

SeagullsStopItNow · 07/07/2018 22:27

God that is a lot of staff!
Erm the hamper idea sounds good then. Nice biscuits, teabags, posh coffee, fudge, etc.

Tomorrowiscancelled · 07/07/2018 22:29

If you're going to go for the hamper idea please make sure they have a staff room! My place doesn't have one and when we got a hamper at Christmas by one parent (at around 4pm on the last day) it was simply shared out between the staff who were on the late shift to take home to their families, the staff who had been on the early shift or were part time got nothing.

welshweasel · 07/07/2018 22:31

A case of prosecco every time here. Always goes down well!

Justneedsomeinfo · 07/07/2018 22:32

I've been having a look on Amazon at some of the personalised gifts. I'm thinking of something personalised for my DS key worker and then something like box of chocs / biscuits for the other staff to share.

PinkAvocado · 07/07/2018 22:34

Ours doesn’t have a staffroom either so I’m doing wine for key worker and posh biscuits for all the other staff.

Princesstwilightsparkle · 07/07/2018 22:39

DD doesn't really have a key worker. It's quite a small nursery really with about 20 staff in total. I like the idea of buying prosecco and have seen an offer 6 for about £35 which would be fine, except that leaves out a lot of people Sad

They legally have to have a key worker. Are they split into rooms so you could just by gifts for those staff? When our eldest leaves I think I will just get the KW something and then a nursery gift-something to replace a worn down toy or a trike for the garden.

Hisnamesblaine · 07/07/2018 23:45

I have 6 nursery teachers in DS class. Was going to get them a mini bottle prosecco each with a signed card from little one. Initially wanted to get more but unexpected car bill put the mockers on it. And I figure it's the thought that counts! I hope it doesn't look cheap Blush

Wincher · 07/07/2018 23:52

Following for ideas - DS2 is leaving to go to school after four years at the nursery, and DS1 was there for two years before that (his last day was one of DS2'S settling sessions) so I owe them something nice! Several staff are Muslim or pregnant so don't want anything boozy. I'm thinking of the nice tea/coffee/hot chic and biscuits hamper idea, but open to other ideas... It's a big nursery with lots of staff. DS2'S key worker is on long term sick leave so I'm thinking of doing a card with a voucher in for her and asking them to forward it on to her separately.

CheeseAndBeans · 08/07/2018 00:13

My DD leaves nursery this year too. She has a key worker but in total there are 15 staff and she interacts with them all!

I have done little envelopes with a poem along the lines of “thank you and I’ll miss you lots like jelly tots” on them, got her to draw a picture and put a packet of jelly tots in each one. Worked out at about 80p each.

Keyworker also getting prosecco and a card made by DD.

condepetie · 08/07/2018 00:41

If you buy an individual present for all staff, please make sure it is actually for all staff - it's so hurtful to be accidentally left out.

If there's a lot of staff who've cared for your child and it would be expensive to buy for all of them, go for a few boxes of chocs. Honestly they'll get so many that they'll all be divvied up in the staff room so that everyone takes home at least one, probably two.

Your child should have a key person though, someone who is responsible for their reports, maintaining their learning journey, someone who knows your child very well. I'd be worried if that wasn't the case.

TrippingTheVelvet · 08/07/2018 00:45

Has the new fad for foncy donuts came to your area? Maybe a delivery of them would be good.

RavenWings · 08/07/2018 00:48

I think if there is a staffroom, then a present for all staff to share is best. Something edible! The hamper suggestion is good.

If not, then I would stick to cards and something small to go inside them. I'd be afraid of forgetting someone though so would lean away from that idea.

Princesstwilightsparkle · 08/07/2018 22:23

So I'm wondering now whether to gift say £40-60ish and ask them to put it towards their next work social or something for the staff at the nursery to enjoy, maybe they need something nice for the staff room perhaps? Does that sound reasonable?

OP posts:
RavenWings · 08/07/2018 23:42

That's a lovely idea. Maybe you could ask for a suggestion of something they need in the staffroom (and be insistent about it). It mightn't be much. Tbqh in my primary staffroom we'd love a parent to buy loads of cutlery and mugs Grin

PandaPieForTea · 08/07/2018 23:48

I now always give towards their next work social and one of the nurseries we use actually ask for this (but really nicely, so it doesn’t sound grabby).

Kraggle · 08/07/2018 23:50

I got the staff at dds pre school a personalised large jar of pick & mix, personalised paper sweet bags and a little scoop so they could all take some sweets home/reuse the jar and scoop when the sweets were gone.
