To be too nervous to watch....

...the match?! It's on the tv but so far I've seen about 60 seconds of play (missed both goals) because I can't stand the tension. I keep having to leave the room and do something so as not to bite my nails down to bleeding every time Sweden get near the ball. So far I've changed the bed, folded one load of drying, put another load in the drier and another in the machine, cleaned out the cat litter boxes, made breakfast and done the breakfast washing up (in USA it's early here) and we've still got 12 minutes to go! I can't stand it. Aargh come on England. How is everyone who's too scared to watch coping?

I have no feelings about football at all. My husband is watching. I've washed up, changed the bed and bathed the dog.
I'm now sat in the garden with a beer and enjoying the utter peace and quiet. For once, there's no music, lawn mowers, screaming or traffic. Just quiet. It's lovely Smile

banivani · 07/07/2018 16:53

See, told you. I’m very reliable when it comes to predicting Swedish results!

SilverySurfer · 07/07/2018 16:56

I can't bear to watch either but that's because I hate football.

Anniegetyourgun · 07/07/2018 17:01

I thought I'd have a look, so I opened the BBC website, but apparently you have to sign in nowadays (presumably so freeloaders without a licence don't get a look-in). CBA to do that, and closed the page. Presumably the same will apply to the tennis

England won, you say? Hope your nails grow back in time for the semi-final.

FootballsComingHome · 07/07/2018 17:04

Gotta go through it all again now 😂

ElementalHalfLife · 07/07/2018 17:07

Annie oh you just had to say that didn't you? My poor shredded nerves have gotta go through this again....aargh! Grin

In 1966 I was 8 and mum took me out shopping for the whole match, so missed entirely. Since then whenever I watch live they lose......

I have not watched any of England's matches this time nor will I. Highlights only for me.

Laiste · 07/07/2018 17:11

YAY!! Grin

It's going to be noisy all night again tonight though. We're on the lane which leads to the village pub ...

TSSDNCOP · 07/07/2018 17:15

banivani bad luck today. Your team look crushed the poor loves Sad

AviatorShades · 07/07/2018 17:18

Are you Theresa May, OP? She said she 'couldn't watch' the penalty shootouts the other day. Get a fuckin grip Woman, you're head of our country and should be able to cope with a bit of footballAngry

If, however, you're not Saint Theresa, I quite understandWinkGrin

qwertyuiopy · 07/07/2018 17:35

Find it quite amusing to bugwatch the tribal displays happening! It’s a ball game ffs

There are some really miserable sods on Mumsnet who seem to begrudge anyone actually enjoying themselves unless it's something they approve of.

TSSDNCOP · 09/07/2018 12:42

I think you’ve reached the point of going to tell on me to your mam Penelope

feathermucker · 09/07/2018 12:51

I don't get why some posters have to be so damn sneery over it. Childish really.

ElementalHalfLife · 09/07/2018 13:05

LadyPenelope Thanks but no thanks, I'm low carbing currently. Maybe it'll sweeten your disposition some if you eat it it yourself...or maybe not.

And no, the match win or lose doesn't materially affect* me or indeed anyone else but like many many other sports fans I do tend to get caught up in the excitement and anticipation surrounding major tournaments - should see me with my local ice hockey team, they're bloody killing me. I'm like that with certain movies and books too, the nervous tension is part of the fun.

*Apologies for going all SAG Police but the affect/effect discord is one of my pet hates.
