Second that Ghosty has lovely looking skin with invisible foundation.

My skin has been awful this last year - maybe I need a trip to Melbourne for Ghosty to tell me where I am going wrong

j20baby · 27/05/2007 10:32

we wasn't allowed to use it at school, but we all caked it on, mmm yes, nice orange colour, i used it to try and disuise my freckles, bloody sunshine!

my dd(7) has got a thing about mascara, it drives me mad when her grandma and her dads female freinds put it on for her, she's already got gorgeous long dark lashes

SweetyDarling · 27/05/2007 10:34

We would never have been allowed to wear it to school, but I am sure my spottier friends were wearing it to parties etc.

NomDePlume · 27/05/2007 10:35

Anna, skincare routines have very little do with teenage acne. It is primarily a hormonal problem, not a hygiene issue. Obviously it can help to have a 'skincare regime' but it is not a magic cure all.

MaPickle · 27/05/2007 10:38

I never wore it but there were girls (like you Booboobedoo!) who wore it so it stopped in an orange line round their jaw ... there shirt collars always had orange gunk all over them.

I was guilty of hideous amounts of brown rimmel eye shadow though.

potoftea · 27/05/2007 10:41

The girls at my dd school not only all wear thick foundation, but very orange fake tan on their legs. It seems that orange streaky legs are part of the uniform.

allgonebellyup · 27/05/2007 10:43

i started wearing it at 15 and it did wonders for my confidence, you just have to find the exact right shade (no orange!)and apply it modestly, and blend it.still dont leave the house without it, its my one and only essential (have quite blotchy skin).

NomDePlume · 27/05/2007 10:44

ime (both as a 15yo girl with 15yo friends and as a mother of a 15yo ds with 15yo female friends) dewy, peachy, clear skinned 15yo are few and far between.

Flame · 27/05/2007 11:03

Aww I love the orange line look

15 is fine. Its the 11, 12, 13yr olds who wear full makeup to school that concern me.

Anna8888 · 27/05/2007 11:03

NdP - here in France most teenagers seem to go to the dermatologist to get their skin sorted - girls take the Pill to sort their skin - certainly I don't see much acne around and about here. It is possible to do quite a bit about teenage acne.

The UK is very short-changed on dermatology compared to France.

hotbot · 27/05/2007 22:21

no not unreasonalble at all, however , if shw wants to wear it i wouls buy her a good brand with a high spf...you cAN THEN HEAVE A SIGH OF RELIEF THAT YOU are protecting her form the sun (oops sorry about caps)

hotbot · 27/05/2007 22:22

god cant type tonight

ScottishMummy · 27/05/2007 22:56

awww don't see foundation/make up as necessarily evil - just a learning phase really

as long as ur perception of worth is not solely driven by make up/looks etc. its part of growing up

oh i enjoyed my rimmel days with my saturday job money

Jonut · 28/05/2007 11:45

I hate the way people always go on about women who wear make up. I suffer from very bad ezcema and have quite a bit of scarriing on my face and would NEVER leave the house with out make up. Men who say they much prefer women who look natural don't seem to reaise that the 'natural' they like takes a lot of make up and a long time to perfect. If you are blessed with perfect skin then great, you really don't know how lucky you are, but don't judge people who are unlucky enough not to.

babyblue2 · 28/05/2007 11:47

I wore foundation when I was 15, I think its easy to forget the stuff we got up to when we were young.

cylonbabe · 28/05/2007 11:49

2shoes, dont you remember being that age??
also, i think badly applied makeup on a 15 year old is perfectly fine. badly applied makeup on a 21 year old, or a 33 year olds isjust sad, to use a kind word.

when i was teaching, the girls in my year 8 form and i had an understanding. as long as theri makeup was applied to look natural, rather the the garish colours thye thought looked good. we didnt talk about it. othewise it needed to be removed. (which was a battle and im glad one that didnt need to be fought too often)

scootermum · 28/05/2007 11:52

I wore it when I was 15..sometimes to cover spots but mainly becuase it said to in More magazine..Just part of growing up really..then there was no such thing as tinted moisturiser though-which might be a better alternative nowadays?

twelveyeargap · 28/05/2007 11:54

I think my mum encouraged me to stick to tinted moisturiser for as long as possible, but I'm sure I was wearing foundation by 14. She helped me choose it so I didn't have nasty streaks/ orange tide lines.

Better that way IMO. Will do the same with DD. She's only just gone 12 and I caught her sneaking out to school wearing eyeliner and mascara and lipgloss. Was horrified, but would rather know about it than her sneak about looking silly.

We compromised and I bought her brown mascara as it's not as startling as the black and she can wear clear lipgloss, but not eyeliner.

They'll only slap it on after they leave the house if it's banned. If she wants to start wearing foundation, I'll do the same as my mum.

twelveyeargap · 28/05/2007 11:55

Oh, and I got her cleanser and eye make-up remover and have instilled the importance of caring for your skin, particularly when you mess it up with make up.

cylonbabe · 28/05/2007 12:00

i have a friend in her early thirties. and the woman does not know how to apply nailpolish. its very very sad. her skills in this are only marginally better than my 4 yr old dd's.
i remember when we were little, dad made us over half an hour late because my big sis was all dressed up, but seriously bad nailpolish on hertoes whch wer then encased in statement sandals. he made her go back and either take it off, or apply it properly. only later did we find out that dad heted us usingmakeup of any sort, but he thought it was better for us to make mistakes when we were young rather than look like mannequins when older.

elkiedee · 28/05/2007 12:00

I wore a lot of make up at 15 but not foundation - mainly translucent pressed powder. I now usually don't wear any for work or even to go out (on rare occasions only) but when I do it tends to be dark/ strong colours - black shadow, liner, mascara (I have very dark brown eyes but quite pale skin which goes pink quickly in hot weather) and bright lipstick. I don't think there were restrictions on make up at school.

hayes · 28/05/2007 19:42

I wore it to cover up my bad skin which was just awful at the time.....15 is old enough in my opinion

TigerFeetFormerlyCheesyFeet · 28/05/2007 20:08

My 15 yo dsis wears foundation. She has skin as shitty as mine was when I was 15. It was awful, I would have done anything to hide it.

We got caught out in the rain yesterday and she kept having to fix her slap. She feels really self conscious if the zits show through and I don't blame her really.

islandofsodor · 28/05/2007 22:51

I used to wear it to get the teachers off my back. I was very pale and used to go deathly white around my time of month. I got fed up of everyone asking me if I was OK so used make-up to give me a bit of colour.
