AIBU or are neighbours CFs?

We live in an old house, in a square shape with courtyard in the middle. We own the courtyard but have to allow access to neighbours over part of it to remove bins.

Historically we all share all the bins and take it in turns to put them out and bring in (some very much more than others...). They are stored, at the end of the courtyard in a separate area with sheds, in various states of disrepair.

Yesterday one neighbour has decided to claim back her bins, and put her number on etc. fair enough. This part we dont mind as she's always the one who doesn't pull her weight so this ownership is a positive step. However she's placed it in our garden, albeit, the part we allow access over.

I think she's being a CF and we need to tell her to put her bins back in the storage area. It's right in the sun all day, and as well as being our land, its directly next to another neighbours patio too. They don't own any outside space BTW, apart from the official bin store.

There's a tiny bit of history with this neighbour. They have previously wrote passivr aggressive notes to us all asking us to be a good neighbour when they deem the bins have been unfairly filled or if we park to close to their van ( parking is tight for all of us) and when we've tried to talk to them it has resulted in a "fuck off' from them.

So. Are we being unreasonable or if not, how do we approach this :/ help!

Lola at all the comments. @PimpMyWheelieBin so far no response, although we think she's been out and not noticed yet.

We were sat last night listening to the slightest bang or scrape that would indicate the Mardy fuckers bringing the bin back. So far so good.

Wow welcome to middle age really, why do people behave like such CFs over a BIN!

@Juells I'm afraid I'm making the courtyard seem far more grand than it is, in reality of we were to add another fence it would be useless space.

We are considering moving our border fence though to only leave a small route of access, although this will need some legal advice I think!

I was thinking of something much more basic than fencing, like a can of white marking paint and a stencil 😁 Then marking a path around the rim of the courtyard, in front of the houses. Like a cycle path beside a road. It would underline the fact that the whole space isn't available for anything that anyone wants. People would probably ignore it and walk straight across, but it would show ownership of the space.

Any reaction to your note and bin-moving? She won't take that lying down...

Hi again OP. Progress to report on my thread in that our CF wheelie bin shrinkers/thieves have been unmasked, although we're yet to get it back unfortunately. What gives with you - any response?

Treacletoots · 20/07/2018 19:43

So. We have some progress. I managed to canvas each of the nice neighbours to clarify that we won't be taking out bins for said CF in the corner and I have full consent.

Cue bin day and CF was spotted scowling whilst having to move her own bin, and better still, replacing back into the bin store. RESULT!!

@pimpmywheeliebin sorry to hear your situation hasn't been resolved :( I'd offer to come around but realistically we're only brave if it involves a note when said neighbour is out :)
