To have a shameless brag about ds

I can't post on FB as it isn't a sporting acheivement and it isn't my acheivement. But this morning we got a handwritten postcard from D's new English teacher he started GCSEs this term (y9). The postcard basically congratulates ds on his excellent start and praises his attitude and work ethic. Just lovely and unexpected.

Da has taken it in his stride, he aims to impress all his teachers. He is only focused on education at school, he is HF autistic and doesn't really enjoy socialising, he is happier talking to teachers than most of his classmates. So it is very important for him to have his efforts at school recognised even if he appears to not care that much. Criticism can break him so it is a delicate balance.

Anyway I don't know how many teachers take the time out to write personal messages like this so I want to thank the teacher. I may send an email in return or get D's to write a card. I am sorry to dump my brag here but this really made my morning. Teachers can make a big difference with gestures like this.

How nice and what a lovely teacher!

Ah that’s lovely! No wonder you’re proud of him, rightly so!
I think a little email to the teacher to say thanks would be grand.

That’s lovely Smile

It's great they recognise hard work, especially for children who work hard but don't get that much recognition in school. Something for him to keep.

But... two local schools obviously have a week when all the teachers are told to do this and my fb bristles with posts about dc who have them, and I always think it would be nicer if they actually did it when they occur to them over the term rather than doing them all at once which comes across as a bit of a tick box exercise. It takes what should be a personal note into a rather generic one.

How nice.

What a lovely teacher he has! Very sweet of him/her.

Donnasaurus · 07/07/2018 10:20

That's lovely you must be so proud, well done ds

We’ve had postcards like that and I think it is a really good idea! DS cringed himself near enough inside out, mind Grin
Well done to your DS!

In the schools my children have attended including my HF autistic child this is the normal way of praise and not the teacher going out of their way. It's nice but it's normal. If they work hard we get a postcard.

Fluffyrainbows · 07/07/2018 10:28

I feel a bit bad for my kids now as I have never thought anything of it, it's just the way schools do things. In fact I thought it was a bit pointless and my children just rolled their eyes. It is a lot better than the communication I received about my other HF autistic child who was constantly being excluded Grin

DS's geography teacher does this. It's lovely because all you get out of DS when you ask how school is going is 's'alright' Grin

Thank you I wondered if this was the norm now. I have not had handwritten postcards before - only mass produced printed ones.

Ds is my oldest so I am learning the ropes with him. Still I am still proud of him even if every kid in the year group got one. it is a good thing to acknowledge effort and recognise the fact that GCSE courses require a lot from pupils - even if teachers are required by order of the management to send the postcards.

Thats really nice. A quick email to the teacher to say how much it means to you and DS will go down well
