I lost mine recently and am kind of glad. It feels like a but of a relief. But I guess we need one these days with children etc. We used to manage without hem though didn't we.

We use to use phone boxes and landlines at home. I don't use them anymore.

I also frequently work in offices without landlines.

I’ve had this happen in the past too! I love losing my phone... she types on her iPhone Grin.

It does get a bit old though as people don’t know you have no phone and meeting up becomes a bit tricky unless you remind them that you have no phone. We’ve lost the habit of planning to meet up at a designated time and place I think, so I kept finding myself not knowing where the other person was and not knowing how to contact them. People tend to now just go in the direction you’re in and then use mobiles to meet up.

I'm fine without my phone when kids are with me. But I work and I'm out and about lots so school need to be able to contact me as no backup for someone else to get them

IloveJudgeJudy · 07/07/2018 10:33

There used to be a phone box on every corner and most houses had landlines. That's not the case any more. Meet ups used to be set in stone as there was no way to contact the other party. That's different now, too; arrangements are much more fluid now and likely to change at a late stage.

LovelyBath77 · 07/07/2018 10:33

I like using the landline! maybe I'm old fashioned. DH was saying about not being able to text me, and I said well, you can just ring me up on the landline! That seems to be odd these days.

My grandad doesn't have a mobile. I've pointed out that nobody can contact him, and he says that's the idea!

My mobile has been on mute for six months since my baby was born, so it doesn't make a noise and wake him up. It hasn't been a problem. I call people back if I actually want to talk to them and I reply to texts once or twice a day.

longwayoff · 07/07/2018 10:56

Consultant to me at first breast cancer follow up. Flicking through my notes "you haven't got a landline! Are you a criminal?" I had no idea that only having a mobile indicated I was probably a drug dealer (explained to me later) but the attending nurse did and blushed to her ankles. Doctors and their sense of humour. How we laughed.. . . .

SilverySurfer · 07/07/2018 13:10

I was bought a £15 PAYG mobile four years ago when I ended up in hospital for several weeks. Since then it has only been topped up once, I can't remember the last time I used it and it usually lies uncharged at the bottom of my bag.

However, I'm old and my life is not as busy as I presume yours is OP, especially as you have children. I think you will have to replace it but perhaps not with an all singing and dancing one.

InsomniacAnonymous · 07/07/2018 13:27

I've never had a mobile phone.

CanaBanana "My grandad doesn't have a mobile. I've pointed out that nobody can contact him, and he says that's the idea"

Doesn't he have a landline either?

theycallmebabydriver · 07/07/2018 13:40

What do you stare at when you want to ignore people?! Wink

SilverySurfer · 07/07/2018 13:42

I have good manners so would not ignore people Smile

cjferg · 07/07/2018 14:16

Even just having a shitty cheap thing that only calls and texts is good. Me and my husband shared one of them for a while and it was nice to not be able to constantly access the internet. I started reading books on the train.

LovelyBath77 · 07/07/2018 16:00

I often take a book or magazine to stare at!

Good idea might get myself a Nokia brick, the modern phones are always running out of charge, it's so annoying. save some money too.

I hardly used it Silver, DH even got a discount on it when he called up the phone people, as I never use it. It;s just for emergencies really.

cjferg · 08/07/2018 10:13

yes , best thing about those phones is they can go days between charges!

LovelyBath77 · 08/07/2018 16:16

Yes, I just got one and it says up to 30 days, brilliant. I can just keep it in my bag. It has a torch and radio, that's it. Very pleased. DH and DCs think it is funny.
