Noisy Neighbours but it's only 930pm!

Hello Mumsnet
I moved to a noisy area (students & built up) when our landlord sold our house last year. It's been about 10 months of various noisy neighbours & as a single parent I find it exhausting having to always be the one who asks for various neighbours to turn the noise down....
To be fair, everyone has always been respectful & obliged and I've always asked nicely (I think!)
Today got home at 6pm to new student neighbours having a barbecue two doors down (terraced houses)
There's now about 15 of them in the garden & they are SO loud (even with our windows closed) ....
My daughter is asleep - she is 7.
I am exhausted - I work about 45 hours pw & would love to go to bed but the noise is unbearable
When is a reasonable time to ask them if they'd mind taking it indoors?
My last neighbours were pretty noisy outside til 10ish & then always went inside...
I have a feeling these new ones might get arsey if I ask them in half an hour if they could go inside.... I'm so tired!!!!!
What would you do?

It's 9.40pm on a Friday night in the height of summer. Give them 2.5 hours and then consider asking - or look at moving house.

I live in a student area too. DD7 is also asleep. If she wasn't cos of noise I'd take her round to ask them to keep it down, but tbh 930 is too early to expect them to quiet for adults, eso as if they're students at this time of year they're likely mature students/ foreign students. I'd respectfully say if you're that tired you could sleep thru and if you can't then have a word and ask them to keep noise down as you've had a crap week. But maybe I'm lucky that given 3x 430 wake ups this week I don't think anything should keep me awake tonight x

Have you got a fan you could put on in your bedroom to try and drown the noise out?

hiptothehop · 06/07/2018 21:59

Hey all
Thanks for replies
They don't look like mature students they look about 18!
I want to just say are you thinking of taking it indoors/are you going out and just let them know how loud they are being as if I do nothing they will think it's ok to be this noisy every flippin night!
I can barely function as it is - and I want my windows open!

If you ask people nicely they generally comply, bellowing out the window just gets peoples backs up

kitkatsky · 06/07/2018 22:11

If it helps I get constantly ID'd for looming 18-25 and I'm 33! I also find ppl in our local (student community) stepping aside expecting me to walk towards uni etc! Not a stealth boast, just that hit all students recognisable as such ages 18

Oh what a nightmare.

Other people’s noise is bollocks.

Legally you can’t say anything about it until 11pm. I would give it till then and then have a polite word.

I do think you need to think about moving though as I really don’t think that the problem will go away.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/07/2018 22:18

Give them tonight. They have just moved in and are in party mode. If they are noisy again tomorrow go and ask them to dial it down a bit.

Council byelaws vary, there is no 'legislation'. Mine doesn't have a published time and they send you a noise pollution recording form.
