To leave my kids for a week

I've been offered an opportunity to go to another country for a weeks experience as part of my uni course. It's non compulsory. As the single parent of 3 children (12, 6 and 5) I haven't left them that long before, only ever overnight while I work nights. I would be leaving them with a relative I trust but she hasn't looked after them before.

What would you do? Would you go?

Have fun

I'd go if it would develop my career or stand me in good stead with an employeer. I wouldn't ever for just a holiday.

Brilliant, enjoy it, the children will enjoy time with family x

Enjoy! I’ve left my kids to go away before.. several times. Not anything to do with a course or work.. just a holiday! And they’ve left me to go on a few too.

We’re all fine! 👌

Glad to hear you accepted the place - I hope it’s a great trip for you!

The kids will be fine - I’ve always hated leaving my kids overnight for any reason but they are always ok. 4 years ago my parents took our eldest 2 children to America to go to Disney World in Florida for 10 days. It just about killed me as I’d always dreamed that one day we would take them there, but our financial situation had changed and I knew that wasn’t likely to happen. I missed them like crazy (and we weren’t able to speak to them either for some reason I can’t remember now so we had to send videos on WhatsApp). But they - and we - were fine! We got loads of decorating done and they had lots of fun!

I wouldn’t have to be honest

Brilliant!! It's a good thing to show determination and furtherance as well. I bet they're proud of their hard working and studying mum!! As a PP said, try and do a couple of nights away beforehand, and organise everything before. It'll be great, good on ya!

I’ve left younger for longer (albeit with DH) and never feel guilty. Enjoy it.
