Carbon monoxide alarm/leak in rented house

So tonight has a night mare from start to finish. We have an aga and a wood burner in our rented house. Tonight DH burnt some junk mail in the fire (idiot) and I made tea on the Aga as it was my turn. About 45 mins later before eating we were both sick and dizzy and nauseous and fluey.

Now I don't have health anxiety but I felt something wasn't right, the dog was also very sleepy and off so we decamped to outside for a bit then I forced DH to go to a&e, dropped the pooch off at a friends with strict instructions if he doesn't improve to go to the vet.

We both had stupidly high levels of CO in our blood, had to sit in resus with oxygen masks on for hours. The dog is fine but I will be going to the vet (again) tomorrow. Think they're keeping us tonight.

But - my point is; we have a gas aga and a wood burner and a gas boiler and no carbon monoxide alarms. Can I complain to the letting agent? They're so shit at returning our calls but surely we can't go home until it's worked out what is leaking. Probably the Aga as my blood tests were much worse than DH and he wasn't in the kitchen.

Who can I ask for help if the letting agent do their usual thing of ignoring us- the landlord works for the letting agent.. Aibu to be fucking livid?! We could have died!

Shock Yep, there are regulations that came in in October 2015 in relation to solid fuel burning appliances. Your landlord has breached these as there should be a carbon monoxide detector in both the room with the Aga and the room with the wood burner and although not a legal requirement would be best practice to have one in the room with the boiler too.

If you see the attached link your local housing authority can enforce these regulations and issue a fine to your landlord of upto £5,000 Hmm which seems very lenient given it could be fatal!

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

You can buy carbon monoxide monitor from I believe B&Q for less than £20 but your landlord should have provided and should get qualified gas Engineer to do checks before you return to property. You cannot see carbon monoxide
