AIBU to insist on a gp apt for “just a wart” (disgusting pic included)

I mentioned to my gp a while ago that my 2 year old dd had a wart under her toenail and he was super dismissive saying they don’t deal with warts just freeze it off. He didn’t even look or really glance away from the computer.

I have frozen it with stuff from the chemist and that’s made it a lot worse - my dds toe looks like a disaster zone .

We have moved House recently and for whatever reason her toe is getting worse.

AIBU to insist on a gp appointment about this even though I have been told to leave it ? treatment from the chemist hasn’t worked and her toe is really tender the last few days!

I’ve tried to take a pic so you can see what I mean!

Freezing it off doesn’t work very well. My daughter recently had a wart and the GP scraped it off with a sterile razor which wasn’t pleasant for her, but did work. I’m not sure a two year old would tolerate it though.

TookyClothespin · 05/07/2018 19:52

I'd go back to the GP. You've tried treating it yourself and it hasn't worked so it needs looking at again.

AnyFucker · 05/07/2018 19:52

Are you sure it is a wart ?

Hidillyho · 05/07/2018 19:53

Have you shown the chemist or just bought the stuff from them? If you have shown and the stuff isn’t working then I would go to the GPS

6demandingchildren · 05/07/2018 19:54

I would insist it was looked at. It must be so uncomfortable and even painful.

6timesthemess · 05/07/2018 19:54

It seems like a wart she had another one on the side of her foot which went when I treated it but this one is just getting worse after treatment.

You definitely need to see a doctor.

Has it actually been diagnosed properly as a wart? That look like it needs proper treatment.

BlueBug45 · 05/07/2018 19:55

Make a GP appointment, show the GP the wart and explain what your self-treatment has done.

6timesthemess · 05/07/2018 19:55

When I originally bought the stuff I showed them but it didn’t look like that then! It was much more “contained” in a smaller area - it’s gone like that just in the last week or so .

Yes I'd get your dc seen

The black around the other nails is that fungal?

Lymphy · 05/07/2018 19:55

No that needs looking at that'll get sore when rubbing on shoes, I freeze warts (of the genital kind, lucky me) and I wouldn't touch that until its been looked at, it might not be a wart at all, make an appointment for sure x

AnyFucker · 05/07/2018 19:55

That looks like a subungual exostosis. Google it.

6timesthemess · 05/07/2018 19:58

Martha’s - no that’s earth Grin I just took that as I was about to put her in the bath - we have spent the day exploring the park in sandals Grin now she’s had a bath the other toes are fine !

It takes ages to get rid of a wart, the treatment dries it out and it makes it look a lot worse before it looks better.

I am currently treating a wart on my finger, every time the dried out wart skin falls off the wart underneath looks a little smaller but this is the 5th time I’ve went through the treatment process and my wart is still here, chemist said it could take around 6 months for it to completely go.

My finger wart is a lot smaller than the one in your pic but it does go that white and bumpy way as it’s drying, it’ll fall off soon and you’ll have to repeat the treatment again and again until it’s gone. It looks painful but it’s not.

FuckPants · 05/07/2018 20:11

I've had warts on my hands near the finger nail and they didn't look like that Shock

smileyhappypeople · 05/07/2018 20:12

Try taking her back to chemist first, probably quicker and easier. My niece had one on the bottom of her foot that got worse with treatment. Chemist changed treatment and it worked to treat it quickly

RitaMills · 05/07/2018 20:18

Mine does when the treatment is drying it out, it’s just a little pink wart underneath but it goes white and flaky while being treated. Here is mine day 2 of treatment, that white bit will look a lot worse tomorrow and the next day it’ll probably fall off and won’t look as gross until I treat it again.

What about taking her to a chiropodist? They may have good knowledge and advice for treatments

Fluffyrainbows · 05/07/2018 20:25

My little boy had one similar age 2. He was at a&e for something completely different and they were appalled but it! Told me the dr should do something about it. But couldn't get past receptionist to see a dr. It fell off not long after this stage.

wrenika · 05/07/2018 20:27

I think you might have to persist with treatment. Warts can be extremely persistent and they don't generally freeze them off anymore.

I had something in the region of 20+ warts on my hands before they decided to freeze them off. I had so many, and they weren't responding to OTC treatment. Freezing off that many at once was a really weird experience! They do go horrible as they die off after freezing - my hands really ached.

Brigante9 · 05/07/2018 20:29

I went to a pharmacist yesterday due to a raging infection on my foot. I said it seemed too minor for a GP visit and recommended I see a podiatrist. I wouldn’t know where to start! I’m doing very careful sterile as possible treatment, but it’s transferred to my hands too.

I think I’d try the duct tape trick on that wart, OP. It’s fab if you can be consistent.

Tistheseason17 · 05/07/2018 20:29

I would insist on an appointment but I would accept the next routine appointment available as a wart (if it is that) is not a medical emergency.

Alternatively, if you don't think it is a wart, speak to your pharmacist. They can have a look and then if they think it is urgent you can tell the GP surgery that a pharmacist has recommended and urgent same day appointment.

Wowzel · 05/07/2018 20:29

Take her to a chiropodist/podiatrist - they will know a lot more about feet and be far more interested in it than a GP
