Chickenpox woes

So been worried the last few weeks seeing the amount of children at DS nursery with the pox spots and low and behold he came back from nursery no day with the dreaded pox. I've got the gels lotions etc and have been advised to keep him off the rest of the week from nursery. Here's my issues...... AIBU to take him a walk into town? Maybe grab a McDonald's to take home for lunch etc? I have so many little bits and pieces to get .... And my DP doenst return from work until after 6pm. Is it unadvisable? We've been so bored the last few days as we can't enjoy the garden as he's never been a fan of the heat.... so it's been board games cartoons going on the tablets etc. We are both going stir crazy!

I hope that's a joke. FFS YES.
Do not take a contagious child out anywhere they could come into contact with people.
HTH

Redgreencoverplant · 05/07/2018 11:59

No you can't go out until all the spots have crusted over.

lavendertops · 05/07/2018 11:59

It's fucking stupid and selfish to even consider it.

But if you'd happily put others at risk of having a stillborn or hospitalising people who are immune suppressed because you're going "stir crazy" then carry on. Don't let them stop you from getting your McDonalds... Hmm

Hisnamesblaine · 05/07/2018 12:00

Right o. Honesty thought just quickly popping into a shop for 2 minutes would be ok. Sorry for asking. HTH?

Hisnamesblaine · 05/07/2018 12:03

Sorry. I've never had chickenpox and didn't know the score. Generally thought you had to be in physical contact to catch it. Didn't mean to get people's backs up. When no rang the doctor I was told not to bring him in as it would be a waste of time. Just buy the products over the counter. I wish I would have insisted now. That way I would have got proper advise.

Really? Take a child with chicken pox to the doctors to mix with all the pregnant and vulnerable patients? Hmm

hungryhippie · 05/07/2018 12:08

Please stay at home with him until the spots start to crust. Just being in the same room with him could infect my son and could potentially kill him.
Thanks for finding out before actually doing it though Flowers

Soubriquet · 05/07/2018 12:08

Yes you need to stay home

I took one of mine to the doctors but I was advised to go, and the waiting room was empty when I got there otherwise I would have been put in a seperate room to wait.

I had to, because ds's pox was infected and needed antibiotics

Soubriquet · 05/07/2018 12:09

Run a warm/cool bath and play some water games

Add something soothing to the water so you get double effect of treating both the spots and his boredom.

JustVent · 05/07/2018 12:10

To be honest, I had to strap DS in his buggy and collect his brother when he had chicken pox. It was a 5 minute job but it had to be done.

Can you get an M.D from a drive through?

I would take him to feed the ducks if he can stay in his buggy.

But shops and other places is a bad idea.

LoopyGreen · 05/07/2018 12:10

Do NOT take them to the doctors. Your doctor will tell you the same. We took DD swimming when she had chicken pox. We had NO IDEA she had them until we got out of the pool and saw 6 little red pox on her. We had to notify the pool and they had to let everyone know. There were tiny babies, pregnant women and elderly people in the pool. We felt dreadful. It is SO contagious and can be really quite dangerous for some people.

A walk through a quiet forest/wood for some fresh air? Fine.

Dinner in McDonald's? Absolutely not fine.

Wolfiefan · 05/07/2018 12:12

Don't give ibuprofen either.

glintandglide · 05/07/2018 12:12

Usually GPS ask that you keep the child in the car and they will come out to the car park to look at them but there is no need for a GP to see them unless complications. Staying in the house is utter hell, hope you e got a garden!

DidimusStench · 05/07/2018 12:12

Of course you fucking are. Chicken pox can be a dangerous illness for anyone but particularly for vulnerable individuals. It’s a week out of your life, not the end of the world - for you!

You don’t need to take him to the GP unless his spots look infected, he has a raised temperature and paracetamol doesn’t bring it down (DONT use ibuprofen on a child that has chicken pox). Or if he is really very ‘unwell’.

hungryhippie · 05/07/2018 12:13

Oh god, I bet you felt awful LoopyGreen
Nothing else you could have done in that situation.

LoopyGreen · 05/07/2018 12:16

@hungryhippie we were absolutely mortified! We felt so bad and have no idea if she ended up passing it on to anyone. I still think about it to this day...

CrackerCrisp · 05/07/2018 12:17

This is all you need to know.

Hisnamesblaine · 05/07/2018 12:22

Thanks guys for the honest supportive posts. I don't get why people are swearing at me. I'm asking for advise. I haven't done it yet. This is all new to me. I will just think of more games to play in the house and play some football in the garden.

When dd had chicken pox one got infected. I was told to bring her to the gp... when we got there i asked if we could wait in another room but the receptionist said no just to sit In the waiting room. I said she'd pox and she said it didn't matter. I was a bit 🤔but did what we were told. We were then told to go to pharmacist but i left her outside in the buggy with the cover over.
I wouldn't take them to park or shops. A few days at home is tedious but no one needs to go to MacDonald ffs

Hisnamesblaine · 05/07/2018 12:24

Thanks CrackerCrisp

RuLu · 05/07/2018 12:24

When all the spots have scabbed/crusted over, you can go out! Until then, you just have to stay put I'm afraid. My two have both had it in the last month & it's a pain but it doesn't last long. Less than a week so don't worry, you won't be climbing the walls forever. Good luck! X

Hisnamesblaine · 05/07/2018 12:26

This isn't about a McDonald's. Hmm It was just a idea as what child doesn't love the little toy in the happy meal.

schooltripwoes · 05/07/2018 12:27

Chickenpox can be spread through coughs / sneezes so best avoid taking him out unless very open spaces.

Like popping into Tesco for some sweets? Grin
