To be shitting myself about mole removal tomorrow?

I have had one of those bulbous moles on my breast for years and years but recently it’s gotten bigger, it gets squashed by my bra and splits open and bleeds.

I’m due to have it removed tomorrow morning and I’m absolutely crapping myself. I’m terrified of needles, even more so since a very traumatic spinal block a couple of years ago. The gp said she would inject local and then basically slice it off, and that because the base of it is very large it will leave a big scar.

Surely they’d need to stitch it up too? If not, there’ll just be a big open wound on my chest?

I’m absolutely panicking and considering cancelling as soon as the surgery opens so they can give the appointments to emergencies that call in - I know it needs doing as it’s quite painful but I really don’t want needles in such a sensitive place! (I’ve had a lot of injections, surgeries etc but I’m so much more scared these days).

Can someone talk me down?!

Thanks so much everyone. To be honest, I don’t care about any scarring, more that it seems like the wound will be quite big and she didn’t mention any stitches.

It’s ridiculous really, I’ve survived so much worse (almost amputated my arm and had 60+ stitches in that while awake, had my eyelid stitched back together etc) but that spinal has really affected me. I’m also nervous about making an idiot of myself by getting panicked or hysterical.

Thanks so much for all your reassuring stories :)

To the PP who asked, my GP said she wouldn’t have done it if it was cosmetic, but because it’s being pushed on and split open by my clothing she’s happy to remove it.

Can’t wajt til it’s healed and I can wear normal bras again!

@RoboticSealpup I had an eyebrow one (colourless) that grew in during my pregnancies now over 10 years ago. I had it removed about 3 years ago, sensibly my GP sent me to plastics. I have a white area now where it was (it’s completely flat - though it look bulging and full of stitches immediately after removal) and I sometimes put a bit more eyebrows pencil on it.

To be honest my mole was very visible and wart-like so better to have the white bit than that!

All done!

I had forgotten how genuinely tiny needles are for locals - I barely felt the needles go in at all, although the anaesthetic does sting. The sensation of it being removed was not the most pleasant thing, mainly because I was worried that once they got to the middle of it, it would really hurt. Took less than ten minutes total.

They used local with adrenaline in it so it barely bled. No stitches, just a dressing for a couple of days.

Thanks for talking me down - the idea of these things is usually worse than the reality.

Gwynfluff

Thank you! Mine is exactly the same - getting really big and has no colour anymore. I'm going to have it removed.

Oh dear, not really going to plan - dressing came off, blood everywhere. Have just put a big plaster on it as that’s all I have!
