To want neighbours to shift their car?

A bit of background. We live on a busyish road. We have space on our drive for one car and park our other car on the street directly outside our house. There's enough room for 2 cars. Neighbours have three cars. No direct space outside their house as their drive is the width of the house so they park one car behind ours which assuming they pay road tax they are perfectly entitled to do. There is just enough space for their car and ours.
Neighbour has had a succession of what can only be described as bangers which he basically tinkers with for a couple of hours each night outside our front window (often loudly revving the engine Hmm)
Not really bothered by it until the latest car broke down about a month ago and it hasn't moved an inch since.
Neighbour has now replaced it with a new car which he parks in the remaining parking space!!!
There is limited on street parking so we have to park over the road at the local rec ground.
Now I know that I can't complain about this in itself as we don't own the road outside our house but does anyone know if can you just leave a broken down car on the road indefinitely? I'm sick of seeing the eyesore out of my window & would like them to shift it. They can't see it from their house but it's right in front of my window Angry
DH is going to go round and ask if they're intending to get it towed away but I'm not sure if we can actually do anything if they say no.

No diagram. That’s why 😂

Unfortunately for you as long as the vehicle is taxed and insured and legally parked it can stay there forever.

Blizzardagain · 04/07/2018 22:01

That is annoying. Is it taxed and insured?

BackforGood · 04/07/2018 22:02

I can see it is frustrating, however, if it is taxed and not SORN then he hasn't actually done anything wrong just annoying. Unless it is to the extent of 'running a business' you can only rely on their good will and wish to be good neighbours.

Racecardriver · 04/07/2018 22:04

You could report it abandoned and the council will take it away. At this point it would not be unreasonable to consider it abandoned.

WillowB · 04/07/2018 22:04

Ugh thought so Angry
It's definitely not roadworthy as he can't start the bloomin thing so at least the MOT will eventually expire I suppose!

Check the DVLA website, it'll tell you whether it's taxed and when the MOT runs out, at least you'll know how long you have to put up with it then Grin

bellabasset · 04/07/2018 22:07

Check the registration with the govt website and check it is taxed. If not report it as an abandoned car, take photo of it. He may not register cars in his name if he keeps changing them.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 04/07/2018 22:08

Sympathy. We had similar with our old neighbours, who didn't use their drive, parked in the street, but has guests park in the narrow road across from our drive so we couldn't get out Angry. Polite requests to move the car were met with hostility. It's shit. We moved. Bit radical, but they were ignorant bastards in many other ways, and we just couldn't be arsed any more.

ADishBestEatenCold · 04/07/2018 22:22

As others have said, check Gov website to find out if it's taxed and MOTed (you only need the registration number).

If it is not (whether it is on a SORN or not) they may not park it on a public highway. Report it to the local Council, who will get it moved.

hibbledibble · 04/07/2018 22:26

If it has an MOT and tax then it can be left on the road. If it is, then yabu as it is a public highway.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 04/07/2018 22:26

Check that it is taxed and insured. If not, you could report it.

Sara107 · 04/07/2018 22:36

It's fairly likely that if it's a broken old banger that they are not paying tax, insurance and mot so check the DVLA and if it's untaxed - bingo!! But you will still have your annoying neighbour, and no doubt the next banger will soon turn up to fill the space!!

WillowB · 04/07/2018 22:43

Just ch checked & It's taxed & mot'd until next March!

What a joke, it won't even start!
