To wonder about kids playing with sand in the garden...

I bought some sand for my children to play with in the garden a few days ago, and my god its everywhere in my house. Everywhere. It comes in on hands and feet and the house is full of sand. Even after hoovering. Its obviously popular but aibu to hate it and wonder how other parents stand it?!

My regrets are many regarding the Sand pit. I hate finding sand in my bed most of all.

GrumpySkintCow · 04/07/2018 19:53

Hi, we have a sand table. Could be the best of both worlds! Grin They just brush their hands off before they get in the house. Have you got one they sit in? Strip off and brush off before they get back in the house.

DCs school has a sandpit so they come home covered in the stuff every. Single. Day.

MorrisDancingViv · 04/07/2018 20:23

We have laminate floors, I have to wear flip flops around the house because I'm sick of having sand stuck in my toes.

We have a sand table. Dd empties it out onto the patio Hmm

Wait until the earwigs make their home in the sand and the cats poo in it

NewYearNewMe18 · 04/07/2018 20:24

Things I never allowed bought my children:

Sand pits
Paint
Playdo
Glitter

They don't appear to be damaged from not having it

Justneedsomeinfo · 04/07/2018 20:25

We have a sand and water table. My DC mix the 2 together Hmm but the sand gets everywhere.

I particularly hate sand in their hair.

They snuggle up on the sofa, supposedly washed and clean, and my eyes land on gleaming sand particles in their hair.

Like inanimate nits.

My cat isn't fussed about the pile of sand. You know what they say about cats not messing in theor own gardens....

Also don't buy that magic moon sand type stuff. I threw it away as it was a nightmare to clean up and really slippery on the floor.

Funnily, I don't mind playdoh, glitter or paint. The advantage of laminate is that I don't have playdoh stuck in the carpet and it's quick to vacuum up. I can also see it to vacuum it so I'm not constantly walking through invisible gritty bits on the floor.

Like inanimate nits

The number of times I've thought, this is it, they've finally brought home nits, only to find it was an entire head full of sand. I think they must bathe in the stuff at school. We don't have a sandpit at home, the neighbours' cats already think it's a public toilet as it is.

My sister has bought my dd a sand pit for her birthday. It's my punishment because 16 years ago I bought her son a drum. She's kept the drum to give my dc should I ever piss her off again!

We live near the beach.... 🙄 You learn to live with it! 😁

OMG don't remind me. When my DGD was in reception and year 2 at her primary school, they had access to a sandpit in the playground. My DD and my DGD were living with me at the time, and I had 2 years of non-stop sand being brought into the house. It drove me up the wall. Her socks were always full of the stuff, the floors felt permanently gritty despite regular vacuuming or sweeping and I can even remember finding it in my bed. Was I relieved when she went into year 3 and was no longer allowed in that playground.
