We do a end of year class collection any way it was decided that you could give between £5 and £10, one of the mums doing the collection is moaning that most people are only putting in £5 And it's not enough for the gift she wants to get, I've not given yet but it's put me off putting in aibu to just buy my own present! Also I was going to spend more on the TA because she looks after my daughters health needs daily.

In addition to what others have said , spa voucher may be expensive and not appreciated.

If it must be spa vouchers then
A. Make sure you find out the specific one she likes to go to (there's a few near me that are prestigious but only one of them I really enjoy and look forward going to... I'd be disappointed to receive vouchers for the others because I'd rather be at my favourite)

B. A spa day for 1 is a waste as who wants to go to a spa day alone? need to get spa day for two people so that she can invite a friend.

In short, spa day might seem nice idea but actually may be a waste of money.

Yanbu our primary schools finished for summer nearly 2 weeks ago and about a week before school ended I was added onto a WhatsApp class group asking all parents to contribute €10 as to buy a voucher for the class teacher as a end of school gift! I thought it was very cheeky and dd had already made a card and we had bought a present. I thought it was so out there to ask for a minimum of €10 !! I deleted the WhatsApp group and dd just gave her gift we bought and I don't care what the other mums thought!! Do the same op the teachers don't want us under such pressure!

Don't teachers get a salary? Why the gifts?

ScattyCharly · 05/07/2018 00:47

You could give £7

Just also to add, some people don’t like spas. I’d do generic vouchers.

In recognition that some people go over and above what they’re paid for and as thanks for doing a hard job. It’s not rocket science.

Saying that, I’m not a fan of spa days and I hate the pressure on parents to stump up for a group collection like this. Don’t pay and don’t worry op.

all contributions should be voluntary and also anonoymous people shouldnt know what you put in so you might tell her she is doing it wrong.

I do class collections and she's got a bloody cheek.
I send a 'round robin' to parents/carers to say that I'll be doing a collection with a card, for the teacher, TA, etc. I make it very clear that there is no minimum contribution nor any obligation to contribute. I write the card from everyone, regardless of whether they have donated any money toward a gift as all the children want to thank staff.
Some years everyone contributes, some years it's about half. Last time I bought gift vouchers for a particular shop but I had already asked the teacher, theoretically, what she'd like if getting a thankyou gift.
