AIBU to ask about post-Mortems

AIBU to post here for traffic to ask if anyone is aware If pictures are taken of the deceased during a post mortem? In all cases or just some? Are the pictures filed and kept? Can the next of kin request to view the photos. After looking online I cannot see any definitive answers. Would love to know if anyone who works in the field would be able to shed some light.
Many thanks

I don't work in the field but for murders or suspicious deaths they photograph wounds and anything of interest

dontwanttoanswer · 04/07/2018 19:24

In most cases yes photos are taken of things viewed as 'of interest'

mude · 04/07/2018 19:25

Thank you for your replies. Would the deceased's face be photographed at all? If devoid of injury or anything "of interest" ?

I go to post moretems for work where the deaths are possibly suspicious or drug related and all ours are photographed by scene examination photographers.

No, the photos would not be shown to the next of kin and I cannot think of any reason why they would release them to family. Different if there were a trial an they were used during it.

Although, to be fair, no one has ever asked me for them.

But everyday pm's I don't believe are photographed but I could be wrong

Yes, we photograph the face.
