cost of nursery trip - different depending on days booked

We have multiple children from our extended family at the same nursery, some get 15 hours funding, others get 30 hours. An end of term trip is happening and the ones who are booked in on the specific day the trip is happening only have to pay for the trip £6.50, if it isnt a day your child would normally be in nursery you have to pay the full child care rate, £21 for 3 hours or £42 for the whole day, so one parent is paying just for the trip - £6.50 and another parent who has 2 children there is paying almost £60! Do you think the nursery could have jiggled the days around and somehow made this work? They have already told the children about the trip so although the parents have been given the option to pull the children out for the day they will be disapointed

I would think this will be because they have to pay for additional staff for the day as they will have more children than they normally do. I think it's reasonable. Why should you get childcare for £6.50 when others are paying £30 for the day.

Ratarse · 04/07/2018 17:45

Everyone will surely be paying the same price though? The £6.50 will be on top of the standard childcare fees.

DearMrDilkington · 04/07/2018 17:46

I think that's fair enough.

RailReplacementBusService · 04/07/2018 17:47

Sounds perfectly fair TBH

helloBuddy · 04/07/2018 17:47

They are still paying the same rate though? Both paying childcare fees and the trip. You can't really expect them to jiggle it around to suit every child.

Sirzy · 04/07/2018 17:48

Seems fair.
They will still need to provide the staff to cover it.

You would be mighty pissed off if you had paid for your normal days rate and the trip and found out others were just paying the trip!

Racecardriver · 04/07/2018 17:49

How exactly were the supposed to jijjle the days arpu f OP. Are you expecting them to use a time machine to bring in children and staff from different days?

Pengggwn · 04/07/2018 17:51

But it is an extra day's childcare, isn't it?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 04/07/2018 17:53

Honestly!

arethereanyleftatall · 04/07/2018 17:58

Eh? Everyone is paying the same if I've read correctly? Childcare plus £6 for trip.

How do you imagine they can juggle it around?

hibbledibble · 04/07/2018 18:00

It sounds fair. Or are you saying that the parents who are paying the full childcare rate aren't paying for the trip?

LIZS · 04/07/2018 18:02

It works out the same! Unless you can "swap" your regular day for the trip day you pay for an extra day's nursery plus cost of trip. If it is a regular day you pay for trip only.

dontwanttoanswer · 04/07/2018 18:04

Well the one parent isn't "just" paying £6.50, they're paying the cost of nursery+6.50 extra so yes yabu

xyzandabc · 04/07/2018 18:05

But those that are paying £6.50 have already paid the childcare part of the fees (whether that's funded or paid for themselves). Everyone is paying the same - the day rate for childcare plus the £6.50 for the trip.

Thesearmsofmine · 04/07/2018 18:06

They will have more children than they would usually have on that day so they need to pay extra staff to cover the ratio. The families paying £6.50 will still be paying the other cost because it is their normal day.

Wellthisunexpected · 04/07/2018 18:08

YABU it's totally fair. They can't just give a days childcare free and how would they pay extra staff needed?

altiara · 04/07/2018 18:11

No, everyone is paying for nursery and the trip. If your child isn’t in nursery that day, then you haven’t paid for nursery that day, why would you get free childcare?
If this happened on one of my non nursery days I just wouldn’t send them on the trip. They’re only little, there’s no peer pressure.

elliejjtiny · 04/07/2018 18:13

Sounds totally fair to me.

4GreenApples · 04/07/2018 18:14

I’d assume the extra cost is to pay for extra staff so ratios etc are correct, which seems reasonable.

The nursery we used charged the same for children on trips whether they were booked in for that day or not, but if the child wasn’t booked in for the trip day, they were only allowed on the trip if an adult came with them to supervise them 1:1.
So even though the cost for the child to go on the trip was the same, you had to pay whatever the cost was for an adult ticket and an extra place on the bus for the accompanying adult before you could take the child not booked in on the day along.

BrieAndChilli · 04/07/2018 18:15

They should either do the trip on a couple of different days OR for those who it isn’t the normal day give the option of coming as long as a parent comes along to supervise that child.

MrsChollySawcutt · 04/07/2018 18:16

You're being a bit thick. It's £6.50 for anyone going on the trip plus the 1/2 day or full day of nursery care.

If it's one of your booked days you have already paid the nursery care element and therefore you pay the £6.50 trip fee.

If it's not one of your days then you have the option of not going or paying for the extra 1/2 or full day of childcare and the trip fee.

I can't understand how you think it could be any other way. If you just pay £6.50 you'd be getting a free day of childcare which would be very unfair to those who have already paid for it as one of their days. Confused

Allthewaves · 04/07/2018 18:16

I don't think it's a very nice thing of nursery to do as I couldn't afford to put my kids in extra days for the trip. But fair enough they need extra staff - does seem a bit of a con tbh. If it's not their day could u not go in a car and meet them at location

Invisimamma · 04/07/2018 18:16

Our nursery has the same system, seems fair to me.

They also offer the option to accompany you child though and then you only pay for the trip and not the additional childcare hours.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 04/07/2018 18:19

Why would they do that, Brie? Tell some parents they don’t need to pay for a days childcare if they come on the trip themselves??
It’s not compulsory Confused

PrivateDoor · 04/07/2018 18:35

Iamagreyound, because actually none of these parents pay for childcare, it is funded. However some are getting more hours free than others. I also think parents should be able to bring their children along for just the cost of the trip.
