To think of his is very sad

Before I start I know that many other children are in similar or worse situations.

However, this made me feel very sad. It was an appeal to text a donation (yes I've donated) if £10 to a charity because as many as one in 8 children will not get a hot meal or enough to eat during the weeks that they are away from school. School is the only place they receive a decent meal during the day.

For whatever reason that really struck a chord, maybe because it means they don't have any money for any treats at all. I appreciate that treats don't necessarily have to cost anything, like going to the park etc.

And to think a lot of parents worry that they don't do enough with their children over the holidays when in reality they do/get loads.

I know someone who works at a food bank. They are always desperately short over the summer with parents who get free school meals suddenly needing to provide.

It is very sad. My dc have taken to eating non stop so far over the holidays, lucky we can afford extra

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 17:15

@Witchend good prompt I'll take some stuff to local food bank as well.

@BrazzleDazzleDay, yes what is it about holidays and eating! Mine used to be the same! I suppose it's because they have more access than when they're at school?

I’m making a twenty quid donation to ‘Holiday Hunger’ instead of giving the class teacher a present - I’ll stick the print-out in an envelope for her. She’s a decent sort actually, but I’m a single mum of three, and over the years I’ve given either decent bottles of fizz or twenty quid PE/John Lewis vouchers to the other teachers my eldest has had, and I’ve never been thanked. So I’m doing this, this year: I think she’ll think it’s a good thing.

@KittyHawke80 that's a great idea! That's also the charity I'm talking about. It was advertised on magic radio.

my town providers enough pack lunches for every child on free school dinners ,if they want them at children's centres dotted around the town

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 17:28

@x2boys I think that's the sort of places the charity is collecting for. It says on the website if you run a place that helps to contact them.
