To be concerned about drone catching images of my children in paddling pool

Last night whilst my dc were playing in the garden, (which is completely private and in a rural location, we have about 3 neighbours) a drone flew over several times. The dc were playing in the paddling pool at this time in various states of undress.

My dh got the children in and I went in search of the drone operator. Located him and started filming him with my phone. He was on the other side of the river from my house. He disliked my filming of him and we became engaged in a fairly heated debate with me calling him a pervert and possibly a peadophileBlush. Apparently what he was doing was completely legal (I believe drone was less than 50 meters from us but that is up for debate) and he wasn't filming the dc. He did also phone the police after I left and then came around and spoke to my dh.

I have looked into this since and have found out that this is legal! How? Surely this can't be right? Surely we have a right to privacy in our own garden!

But you’re incorrect. That’s what was being discussed 2 pages ago 😭

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:03

But you’re incorrect.

How?

People have been arrested for being verbally racist?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:08

It's hard to enforce, yes
but there are restrictions on speech.

glintandglide · 05/07/2018 19:10

It has nothing to do with being racist. Surely you can’t think they’re the same thing? Just because you think something is wrong doesn’t mean the law is always there to enforce it for you and stop people doing it.

If I called you a paedophile right now what would you do? How would you stop me?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:16

It has nothing to do with being racist.

We are not talking about the man with the drone, the question was about being able to call people any names.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:17

If I called you a paedophile right now what would you do? How would you stop me?

I'd report and your post would be removed.

Why are you stuck on this man with the drone......

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:19

I think you can call people whatever you like !!

It was an answer to this^^

Notice "people" hypertetical "people" and the restrictions on free speech.

You can't call people anything you like.

glintandglide · 05/07/2018 19:20

Yes you can 😭 I’m not engaging anymore. You don’t get it.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:24

Yes you can
Then explain it.

Of course there are laws, you can't for example go to your town centre tomorrow and start randomly shouting at people.

glintandglide · 05/07/2018 19:26

I’ve already explained it. Shouting at someone in the town centre is nothing like calling someone a name. You keep confilating events that have nothing in common with name calling.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:28

You keep confilating events that have nothing in common with name calling

Fine replace shouting with racial slurs.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:30

There are restrictions on what you can call people.

glintandglide · 05/07/2018 19:38

But the racial slurs are irrelevant. We are talking about calling someone a pervert or paedophile. Racist slurs are illegal because the specific crime broken is incidting racial hatred. There is no application of this to calling someone a paedophile

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:41

We are talking about calling someone a pervert or paedophile.
No we were not, you might have been, but originally my reply was to Alicatz66 and it was about "people".

You've butted in and decided it's something else.

glintandglide · 05/07/2018 19:51

So totally irrelevant to this thread, you were actually informing Alicatz that racial slurs are illegal?

Course you were Wink

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:52

That speech is restricted.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 05/07/2018 19:54

I had to water it down to 'race' as you were very slow to work it out. Even though i pointed to the post at least twice.

JaneDoe9000 · 06/07/2018 08:42

@ChipsAndKetchup

Again, if you know for a fact he was filming, please let us all in on the information you have.

ToadOfSadness · 06/07/2018 09:10

Anyone know of any legal drone jammer as they all seem to be illegal?

And expensive if they are any good. I found interesting articles and videos using Raspberry Pi.

The reasons they are illegal is that they can interfere with other wireless transmissions in the area. I looked at every article I could find.

ChipsAndKetchup · 06/07/2018 11:31

@JaneDoe9000 I'm still waiting for you to explain the benefits of a drone with no camera. FYI that's a toy plane.

HTH.

Alicatz66 · 06/07/2018 15:58

Blimey !!! This has escalated since I was here !! ..... in no shape or form was I suggesting that racial slurs are ok ... that's Ludicrous!!! .... I was just messing about saying you can say what you like ! .... total off the cuff remark not some considered legal argument !!! Calm down !

NoNotheresnolyrics · 06/07/2018 16:00

I think people who use drones are creeps.

OverTheHedgeHammy · 06/07/2018 16:14

Jam it with a paintball gun!!! Grin

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 06/07/2018 16:31

No one suggested you had said that, it was a case of someone butting in and taking a quick, somewhat light hearted reply, which was basically that speech is restricted so you can't, to extremes because they had no clue what they were talking about or and obsessing over the drone man instead of about the hyperthetical people you mentioned.
Race was only mentioned the 4th or 5th time I tried to explain they had it wrong to water it down to their level.

glintandglide · 06/07/2018 18:00

Nice attempt at being patronising there captain. Amazing someone who doesn’t know the difference between civil and criminal law has the front to do it really though
