To think this woman was insane

Went to a local pub to watch the football. I mean a proper pub - no food, around five tables and a beer garden. There were TVs to watch the football both indoors and out.

The woman in question seemed to be having a party (adult) but with a few child guests who I would estimate ages between say 9 - 18. By party I mean not organised by the pub but an inproptu gathering.

She continually (loudly) complained about the swearing throughout the match: Aibu to say you don’t go to a pub during a World Cup game if you’re adverse to swearing!

I’m surprised that a pub that doesn’t do food let under 18s in.

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 03/07/2018 22:52

Insane? No.

Mildly annoying? Yes.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 03/07/2018 22:54

YANBU... swearing happens in pubs, as it should be allowed to. It’s an adult environment... you’re either ok with your kids being exposed to that, or you take them home.

HairDyedPink · 03/07/2018 22:54

Not sure why anyone need to swear when they are watching tv

MyKingdomForACaramel · 03/07/2018 22:54

Ok insane wrong choice of word - but honestly if you’re bothered by swearing - a pub during an England match possibly Kant your ideal venue

Hang on, why does the World Cup (I'm still grieving over Ronaldo, no I'm not sharing him) excuse swearing?

MyKingdomForACaramel · 03/07/2018 22:56

Kant??? isnt

I would not go into / take a child into a pub at any time if i was concerned about the swearing .
Particularly a no foodie type pub.
I have worked in pubs for many years and to expect everyone to sit around saying oooh " I disagree with the chap in black but he he has a valid point " is just silly

NotTakenUsername · 03/07/2018 22:57

How are kids there if the pub doesn’t serve food?

Moussemoose · 03/07/2018 22:58

Swearing doesn't need to be excused in a pub. In a pub - an adult environment - swearing, like drinking, is acceptable.

If you object go to a cafe, swearing in a Starbucks would be unacceptable and need to be excused.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 03/07/2018 22:58

It doesn't need to be excused in an adult environment, Ethylred? The kids shouldn't have been there.

HyenaHappy · 03/07/2018 22:59

Aibu to say you don’t go to a pub during a World Cup game if you’re adverse to swearing!

Or people could just not swear around kids. It’s not essential to swear, not even when watching footie in a pub.

NotTakenUsername · 03/07/2018 23:00

Ugh it’s only words.

DevilsDoorbell · 03/07/2018 23:03

The children shouldn’t have been in the pub. It’s an adult environment. She was being ridiculous

donquixotedelamancha · 03/07/2018 23:04

I'm worried you think think the kids in pubs are the food.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 03/07/2018 23:04

@hyena - I’m sure the people there (all perfectly nice) wouldn’t swear around kids in a playground, a shopping centre or a cafe - think it’s more nonone really notes the kids in an adult pub

donquixotedelamancha. To coin a MN fave... eh? Confused

MyKingdomForACaramel · 03/07/2018 23:10

to me, the kids were not that young either and the swearing wasn’t the worst either - I just felt it was strange.

TheBigFatMermaid · 03/07/2018 23:24

I would not take my DCs to a pub showing the football and not expect swearing, so YANBU!

Did she not realise the football was on?

GabsAlot · 03/07/2018 23:26

thought kids couldnt go in pubs after certain time

newdaylight · 03/07/2018 23:28

I don't think anyone said it did.
Since when did having a good swear in a pub need excusing?

TokenBritPoshOfCourse · 03/07/2018 23:31

Averse to.

Not adverse.

As you were (sorry, bugbear of mine).

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 03/07/2018 23:36

You wouldn’t take your kids to a strip club and expect everyone to put their clothes on...

Same rules apply to a pub in my opinion.

They are adult spaces where adults are free to do certain adult things. In a pub, that’d be swearing if they choose to.

SarcasticFringehead · 03/07/2018 23:37

I have no idea when the football is on until it's on and my Fb feed mentions it.
I don't care about swearing though.

ArsenalsPlayingAtHome · 03/07/2018 23:39
