to be panicking about out of date fish?

DP did us fish cakes tonight. Bought them a few days ago. Opened the bin to put some recycling out, saw the fish packet. 4 days out of date!! Should've been eaten on the day they were bought.

I'm pregnant and panicking. Is this awful and how angry should I be at DP?!

If they smelt and tasted OK then theyre fine. It's only a problem (even when pregnant) if they make you ill and unless you ate very late, you you'd be ill by now if you were going to be.

DragonsAndCakes · 03/07/2018 21:23

Had they been frozen in the meantime maybe?

Plumsofwrath · 03/07/2018 21:25

You’d know if th fish had gone off by the smell of them, before and after cooking. I wouldn’t worry. Also, shop bought fish cakes are mostly potato anyway, which you have to cook for a long time to get to “done”, which is plenty long enough to cook whatever fish was in them.

MichiganSparkles · 03/07/2018 21:31

@ReadingRiot I finished eating them about 30 mins ago (late shifts). Super worried as I know immune systems in pregnant women aren't great!

@DragonsAndCakes no they hadn't been frozen Confused

MatildaTheCat · 03/07/2018 21:33

Trust me, you can smell off fish.

DragonsAndCakes · 03/07/2018 21:33

Why the face?

Camelsinthegobi · 03/07/2018 21:35

I really think you’d know if it was off. If not off, then absolutely fine. Calm down!

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2018 21:37

You know if fish is off, there's a definite smell. Try not to worry.

MichiganSparkles · 03/07/2018 21:42

@DragonsAndCakes because I'm worried they weren't frozen.

Ok, slightly calmer now. I have a pretty high risk pregnancy for a number of reasons so anxiety is at an all time high!

OP posts:
DragonsAndCakes · 03/07/2018 21:49

I don’t really understand what you mean by
‘Because I’m worried they weren’t frozen’.

I was just trying to point out a chance that they weren’t out of date after all. I thought you could maybe check. It wasn’t clear from your OP that you live with your DP.

MichiganSparkles · 03/07/2018 21:52

@DragonsAndCakes I'm confused. The face wasn't aimed at you. It was a 'oh no, they weren't frozen, that can't be good! Confused' kinda face. Wasn't meant to cause any offence.

OP posts:
DragonsAndCakes · 03/07/2018 21:54

Oh fine, I took it differently. Thanks for clarifying. Smile
Hope all goes well.

MotsDHeureGoussesRames · 03/07/2018 21:55

@DragonsandCakes OP wasn't being offensive with the emoticon. She was using it to express worry not contempt or confusion.

MichiganSparkles · 03/07/2018 21:56

@DragonsAndCakes no problem Smile I am actually very appreciative of any input I get on mn and would never mean anything rudely! It's easy to misinterpret.

Thanks! I'll know by tomorrow morning...

Sorry... x-post!

NewYearNewMe18 · 03/07/2018 21:56

Super worried as I know immune systems in pregnant women aren't great!

Hmm
MichiganSparkles · 03/07/2018 22:00

@NewYearNewMe18 what's with the Hmm ?

OP posts:
DragonsAndCakes · 03/07/2018 22:03

Thanks Mots I totally misread it.

DragonsAndCakes · 03/07/2018 22:06

The immune system is indeed affected by pregnancy, so I’m not sure why that’s being questioned.

Pebblespony · 03/07/2018 22:06

You'd probably have known if they were dodgy.

MichiganSparkles · 03/07/2018 22:07

@DragonsAndCakes see previous post from @NewYearNewMe18 for an example of a rude emoji Wink

"You are at particularly high risk for foodborne illness because your immune system is altered during pregnancy. This is a natural condition, which helps you and your baby get along with each other. However, such an alteration may make it harder for your body to fight off harmful foodborne microorganisms."

From FDA.gov

I mean they don't tell you not to eat Brie and cured meats for nothin' you know!
